Anyone Use the Alesis M1 Active MK2's?

I have these monitors and they are pretty clear sounding. They are bi-amped and put out 100Watts of power. They are not that loud but they do give a flat crisp representation of sound. I heard a pair of Mackie 8's and they sounded flatter and more accurate, but they were a bit pricey for me. I...

    NanoVerb anyone?

I wouldn't say the Nano is junk, but the presets don't sound too bad. But Like Farview said , you can only use 1 effect at a time. So to use that effect for every sound might sound a little monotonous. Maybe you should check out a used Quadraverb instead!!! :D

Mic inputs WAY hot. Input at -8 and still clipping

What are you recording? I take it your only using 1 mic. If your doing vocals maybe you should get an outboard pre-amp, that has some sort of gain control. This way if the signal is too hot, you can then lower the gains on the pre to attenuate the hot signal.

Will someone please explain EQ settings??

Hello, I didnt feel like typing all of this! :D So I found this reference chart on another site....... To understand EQ and its intricacies you need hands-on experience, but to help you get started, here's a table of general uses and the different ranges that EQ can affect. As every sound is...

Mic inputs WAY hot. Input at -8 and still clipping

Is there anything between the Aardvark and source that can control volume? If so try turning that down some. I would try not to over-use compression at this point, if you use too much and it may sound too squeezed. Once its recorded like that you cant fix it. You would be then forced to...

    DAW vs. "Vintage Analog" recording

I am not a top pro but I still have an intergrated analog/digital set-up. I run everything through an analog mixer before it goes into the computer. I do however mix/master internally.

    DAW vs. "Vintage Analog" recording

There is software out there that can replicate the sound of analog. I agree that tape does give a slightly warmer/smoother vibe, but you can almost achieve those results with good plug-ins also. My point is that if you take an album, you probably wont be able to tell whether it was made on a...

Mic inputs WAY hot. Input at -8 and still clipping

    That card has a software control panel mixer, it says on the link you posted: Features * Shielded 24-bit converters * 8 XLR mic inputs * Phantom power * 8 _" line inputs * 10 line outputs * 4 inserts * S/PDIF in/out * MIDI in/out * Wordclock in/out *...

Crackly sound after a few minutes of use???

Did you try upgrading the drivers? If they are already updated then you should get another soundcard. I use the Echo Gina/24 with cubase and it has extremely low noise, latency and it doesnt give me stability problems. Hope this helps.

    Bumping volume levels on mixdown/mastering

Try using some compression on the master track and then using the make-up gain to give it somewhat of a fuller sound. You may have to experiment with this a bit, for as I cant just tell you to use certain settings on a compressor. Hope this helps.

adjust buffer settings to remidy crackle?

You are getting horrible sound quality because the lower the buffer the more it taxes the CPU. Your RAM seems to be at an OK amount, but overall you still have a P3. You should think of upgrading soon. I have my buffer set at 1024 and I am down to 20ms of latency (which is fine for me). There...
