Please help. My mix is driving me crazy!

That was a good article Blue Bear! I briefly read it, so after this post I will read it in detail. I would like to revise what I originally said: You can mix in headphones, it is possible (considering they are monitoring headphones) but....... The majority of people I have spoken to and/or heard...

Newbie Needs Advice On What Hardware To Buy

I spent $500 on my vocal set-up. I use the Shure KSM27 mic and the DBX 286a mic-pre. Check the sound click link to get an idea of how vocals come out with them. P.S. Its all plugged into the Echo Gina/24 sound card. Peace~

    microphone static

Like aciddart said that is most likey what is giving you the static sound, the generic sound card is crap and it produces noise in the recordings. And no matter what high-quality mic you plug into it you will still get noise with that card. If you are serious about recording you should upgrade...

I know these questions are a dime a dozen...

Did you route the signal to the track your about to record on? Or better yet is there a button that arms a track to record on? You should read the manual on recording a track. That will give you more detail on this matter.

Want To Step Up To Computer To Record

There are a lot of answers we can all give you on this, you need to be more specific with your question, or try to narrow it down some. For instance do you want to go the PC route or MAC, are you going to strictly use software or some hardware also, are you going to record a lot of audio tracks...

    Pro drum sound

The kick is pretty loud, I would pull the fader for it down some. The guitars sound nice in the beginning, but when the heavy guitars kick in they sound a bit too tinny, but maybe thats the way you wanted them to sound. This is just my opinion, But I would defintely pull the volume for the...

I know these questions are a dime a dozen...

If you only using your mixer as a patchbay for your instruments and plan on mixing your tracks internally (in the software), then dont touch the EQ on the mixer. Dont record into the computer using any EQ, effects or even compression, well maybe a little compression to keep the peaks at bay...

    tascam 488mkii portastudio

:D Hahahhaahahah I still have my old tapes too. I should of transferred them to the computer before I sold the machine. But I would of had to only been able to record 2 tracks at a time. That would of been hell to do.

    let me see your studio!

I like how you felt the need to keep the Pentium 4 box and let it be seen in the photo! :D

    analyzing my monitors

Yes and No! It would be better to mix in a sound controlled environment but us home studio guys dont have that luxury, so the next best thing would be to learn your monitors. Do a couple of mixes and burn test copies to image on "other" stereos, even listen to them on clock radio speakers if you...

    Copywriting my song(s)

I thought that poor mans copyright would work too, but it can be faked! And I also heard that it wont stand up in court, but it has never actually been tested. My understanding is that it would be totally up to a judge whether "mailing yourself a copy" to be admissable or not. I wouldnt take...

    cursor thing??????????????

This is easy!!!!! :D Assuming your using SX! Right at the top of the project window there is a switch (looks like an arrow). Press it so it becomes blue. If you want it to scroll smoothly go to the top menu and goto file>preferences then select transport and check the stationary cursors box...

    SX 2.0 + moto 828 soundcard..can i monitor realtime FX on what i record?

I think you can add FX on the input channel strip while recording in SX. I am not 100% sure if it will record the effect or not, but you can monitor it. If it doesn't record the effect just copy and paste the input channel strip to the recorded audio track. I hope this wasnt confusing.

Anyone Use the Alesis M1 Active MK2's?

I like the actives better, the amp is built in and it is designed for the speakers. Not only that you dont have to eat up rack space with a separate amp.

bit off topic, need help with my computer

Hello minofifa I have to agree with manning1 and why do you feel you need to partition 3 drives for? Take your 2 - 120GB drives and use 1 for samples and teh other projects and then use the 80GB for your OS, and programs! I dont know why you see a need to partition all your drives. Hope this...

    DAW vs. "Vintage Analog" recording

Not neccessarily, They may be the same as far as both being digital but thats it. Digital tape suffers the editing and processing benifits you would get from hard disc recording. Not only that digital tape aside from clarity, has similar drawbacks that analog tape does like tape crinkle, longer...

    XP home of XP pro

I use XP pro, Home would suffice too. I would stay away from 98se, its an old platform and its only a matter of time before you would have to upgrade anyway. Secondly if you plan on using Cubase SX 98 wouldnt cut it because SX only supports win2000/XP platforms. That did suck for me because I...
