Get Less Noise In Your Recordings!

You guys have to be kidding me? :D Polarity means a state either positive or negative with reference to the two poles. Did you ever see speaker wire, and one side has a "white line" or mark on it. That was to ensure that you dont hook up the negative to positive on a speaker system. By...

Track processing is KILLING my CPU

Using a 7200RPM drive can be affecting performance too, especially the more tracks you try to play back. Definitely get a dedicated audio drive!! I use a SCSI ultra160 disc works great and never bogs down even under heavy loads. Your MoBo seems new enough to support SATA, so you can even use a...

What sampling rate do you use?

Recording in 24bit from the start is better than 16bit, and the dithering down can be noticable if you have good converters in your software or hardware. I use Samplitude 7 Pro, to make CD's and I have to say the CD's do somewhat still sound 24bit (sound like it is still being played in the...

    Soundcard for Recording

This is hard to say, they are both pretty much in the same price class, have similar features. The EMU seemed to have slightly better reviews. EMU Features: * PCI audio interface * E-DSP accelerated effects processing and mixing * Zero-latency, hardware-based mixing and monitoring...

    (cool Edit Pro Trouble)

Are you getting sound on the playback??? If so they you may need to bump up the input a bit when you record. I dont know if Cool Edit has this feature but Cubase has a little slider that can magnify the wave image.

Get Less Noise In Your Recordings!

I thought I would post this up for this site. It would be cool if it became a sticky. My studio houses both balanced and unbalanced cables and I dont get excessive noise (if any) in my recordings. I happen to make sure of 4 things. 1. Separate your audio cables from your electrical...

Definitely dont plug the mic directly into the mult-track, micing the amp is preferred.

simple question - recording guitar direct to computer

The bass you can probably get away with plugging it directly into the mixing board, but as for an electric guitar you should mic the guitar amp.

    Copywriting my song(s)

I am looking at Form PA and Form SR right now and I dont see where it says "use one application per song" From what I understand you can compile a bunch of tracks onto one application. I and a few friends have successfully done that before in the past.

Just got my CD back from Mastering...need some thoughts OK!!

You might be right, I remember giving a 160Kbps file to someone for a soundclick page. Anyway I did listen to the track Sittin and it does sound a bit alice in chains like, (good thing). Would like to hear the pre-master though.

Just got my CD back from Mastering...need some thoughts OK!!

Secondly evaluating an MP3 is somewhat difficult due to the compression it underwent. And soundclick doesnt suppoort CD quality MP3's, I could be wrong about that but I think they only support MP3's with up to 160Kbps (16bit@44k).

Just got my CD back from Mastering...need some thoughts OK!!

Yeah I think posting the pre-mastered and the mastered will get you feed back. All we can do now is compliment if it sounds good, but we still dont know if it was improved. I'll give it a listen anyway to see what the ME did. Peace~

    EQing "finger snapping"

If what you recorded is muddy, you may want to roll off the lows a bit and maybe raise the highs to add that airy sound to it. I cant tell you exactly what frequency to roll off or add, because I dont know how the "fingersnap" sounds in the first place. My advice would be to experiment with the...

    Soundcard for Recording

Definitely stay away from any Sound Blaster series cards. But try this link here to see a bunch of sound cards. There are a few that are a bit more than $100. But whatever you decide is up to you. Hope this helps.

recording analog for a huge dummy

One would be here for days writing every precise detail on how to record to an analog 2" tape. Also like Farview said, the tape alone will eat up almost all of your $500 budget, and the tape deck you couldnt even touch for under 15K. You can still achieve the "early rolling stones" quality if...

Track processing is KILLING my CPU

You seem to have a powerful machine right now! What are your buffers set at? Having them below 1024 can start to tax the CPU when using a bunch of effects, tracks VST's etc. Try putting them at 1024 or slightly higher if its lower than that now. Just to let you know when you raise the buffers...

    Soundcard less than $250??

The Echo Layla/24 has 8 I/O but it may be a bit more than $250. Probably like $400 or so. The card is discontinued now, but you can probably get a used one on ebay. Hope this helps.
