    Dual-Monitor Card

I've been a happy Matrox user for many years. Went from the ancient Matrox Millenium (1MB/PCI) to the Millenium G200 (8MB/AGP) to the Millenium G400 dualhead (32MB/AGP) and I've used them with Soundblasters, M-audio PCI cards, the Echo MIA and now an RME Fireface 800 and I can't say that I've...

Audio interface for laptop: Remote recording

First of all: Forget about USB audio interfaces, especially when you need 4 ins. You want something reliable? Let me say it again: Forget about USB audio interfaces. Secondly: Most if not all firewire interfaces on laptops won't give you bus power. Even if they have six pins it's more than...

    Minimum Athlon processor speed

I get that track count easily with my AMD Duron 1200. And that's a cpu that hit the market years ago. Any AMD cpu that's on the market now will do.

    Multiple interfaces

    Are you sure about that?

    Multiple interfaces

The cheapo solution would be to buy another one or two 1010LT's and run them all side-by-side.

You can plug the VC6Q into an insert just fine. It also has a line in.

A band reunion after 41 years, DJL, and life in general.

I hear ya. I'm in a conventional line of work, I work in IT which I like, have a stable income and I like that too. But yesterday I had the opening night of an amateur musical production (Fame). I'm playing bass in the band. My first live performance in 2.5 years and it went well. I also...

    mic cables

I make them myself from Tasker cable and Neutrik plugs. I cut up 100 meters of cable just last week and ordered 15 sets of plugs. It set me back 155 euros (cable 80,-, plugs 75,-) but it's giving me 15 6 meters (18ft) good quality cables (with still 10 meters left).

    laptop with USB audio interface

I had the M-Audio Transit for like a week and it sucked. Just unreliable. Some cracks/pops on my PC, on my laptop (for which I bought the Transit) it flat out sucked, too many issues to get anything done.

    Audio interface...take two

    - PCI interfaces are cheaper, have been around longer therefore have more matured drivers/support which leads on average to a higher reliability. - I have a PCI firewire card in my PC because the motherboard doesn't have it onboard. I can easily switch my recording interface between PC and...

    Audio interface...take two

Some things just can't be done in the box. Some ensemble recording opportunities are coming my way, and for that you can't bypass the need for nice mics, nice pre's and nice converters (looks like I'll be needing 6 channels for the upcoming projects), not to mention a nice room. The beige box is...

    Audio interface...take two

I've used an Audiophile up until now but I recently splurged and got myself an RME Fireface 800. It's a lot(!) of money but I did it because: - I need more inputs (it has 10 analog i/o). - I need something that I can use with my laptop -> firewire - Something that I can expand in the future...

    ok, I don't wanna start a war, but . . . m-audio audiophile or emu 0404?

With a cable that has RCA plugs on one side and unbalanced (TS, or 'mono' if you like) jack plugs on the other. It's as simple as that :)

    The Audiophile has RCA connectors.

Any reason why NOT getting a RME Fireface 800 ?

And yeah, it's an awful lot of money. I'm no pro, I won't earn it back any time soon but I just like to invest in good stuff and I can kind of afford it right now. I'm reluctant to buy state-of-the-art computer hardware because drivers need time to mature. But RME has a great reputation. I...

Any reason why NOT getting a RME Fireface 800 ?

I got mine around 10 days ago. Nice piece. Solid metal case, sounds great. I haven't seriously tested it yet but I gave it a quick spin in Cubase SX. Playback at 96kHz sounded distorted, sometimes. I'm about to do a fresh XP reinstall on my laptop to rule anything out in that area. Old projects...

    What's Faster?

PCI, but firewire is in most cases fast enough.

    Laptop Processor Questions

The Pentium M and the Pentium 4 are based on two completely different cores. The Pentium M core just happens to be more efficient per MHz than a Pentium 4. Just like the Athlon family.

    Laptop Processor Questions

I'm not sure what the numbers are exactly but a Pentium M at 1.3 GHz roughly equals a P4 at 2 GHz.

    emu 0404 compatible?

yes, it will. That's an ordinary PCI slot.
