I have a couple of B3's, and can only assume that in cardioid, it's the same mic as the B1?
Anyway, I like the B3's better than the C1 for instrument micing, but for my vocals still like the C1 over the B3/B1 -- but I like bright sounding vocals.
Thanks, Jrosenstein. Very informative. If I'm recording in stereo, would you recommend reversing the polarity of one of the mics just to make sure there is no phase problem? And I ask because I'm not so sure I'll know if I'm losing full sound do to phase problems...
Can anyone tell me how to inspect/fix the reverb in a Peavey? It's a small Backstage Plus.
Thanks.
(Yeah, I know already -- "get a Fender" or fill in the blank amp.)
I've had great sound from recording a banjo with a C1, playing about 15-18" away from the center of the head. I've also found the C1 is great with the Regal resonator. Other than that, I think the C1 is too colorful/shiney for other instruments such as acoustic guitar, and the B3 comes in nice...
It's imperative to use two identical mics. I tried using a B3 and C1, and no matter what I did with eq, the continuity could not be obtained. Had to get another B3, and even though I'm using two different pres -- a Meek and the VTB -- they sound (of course) identical, and the stereo sound is...
Ah, it truly would be a bonus if only the volume would be loud enough. It's actually just audible enough to pose problems with slow tunes.
I do think it's the amp and not the guitars. I have five amplifiers in my little room, and it's the only one that loves broadcasting.
I'll check...
Clif,
I've found that when a big truck or motorcycle drives by, it doesn't matter whether I have a shockmount or not -- a condensor will still pick up the vibrations. I don't have a $150 dollar shockmount, though...
I do like my shockmount because I can hang my mike upside down more...
I spent a couple of hours last night going thru, over and under threads, and I'm purty sure I know what my recently acquired B3's functions are. But just so I know, would you please do this hick a favor and verify:
I know the symbols on the type switch are Omni, Cardioid, and Figure 8. The...
I'm going direct thru a DI into a Joemeek VC3Q into the recorder. How do I get the strings to have the same punch? The E string has such a stronger, thicker (of course) signal.
Alan,
I bought this new from GC, so I imagine the supply is okay.
The unit sounds great, but it appears I'm just expecting too much from compression. When it's asked here on the forum how to get volume levels up/maintained at a consistent level, it seems compression is always the answer, at...
Isn't this nasty thing siblance just a necessary evil? We hear it back on playback, but it's also there when we speak. And I know it can be lessened, but to get that crisp, airy sound we want--and pay lots of money for mikes/mics that give it to us, I don't think I've heard anything (that was...
Interesting how this post has the most views but not a lot of replies (out of the top dozen or so topics).
I think we're all wanting to know how much "real" music people are making...or maybe it's like in "Boogie Nights" when the question is asked, "how much can you bench?", and you wait until...
Chess,
Do you meank crank it so that the red O/L light (which is to the left of the leds) comes on...often?
Drummerbones: I've never used compression until I got this this past November, so I really know very little about it. My understanding from looking up old posts (I do use search...
It's hard to say what "overbright" is. Normally you want the vocals brighter so that they do cut thru. If you're not wanting the vocals to be so upfront, then there simply has to a point when you bring down the volume that they sit well...or cut back on the highs.
