I bought one of these on ebay a good while back and now that I've finally got around to trying it out I'm finding the the input overloads at just about any level. I have an lxp-5 that works just fine so it's not an operator issue. Any good advice on getting it serviced w/o spending close to what...
I'm running my MR-8 into a pair of powered Yorkville monitors and the sound is horribly distorted. The wav files are fine. Seems like a few of us are having problems with this.
A $59 tube pre from Musician's Friend and a cheap condenser mic like a Studio Projects B1 (good all-purpose mic) would be an amazing improvement. No matter what recorder you have you still need a pre and a good mic.
For more of Gretsch-type tone you could put a set of TV Jones TV'trons in it. StewMac stocks them now. Or Fralin Unbuckers, or dimarzio Bluesbuckers. But really, I think you should just sell me that guitar...my email is eblewett@nc.rr.com
Hard to believe the internal mic sounds that good. I'm currently using a minidisc to capture ideas but with the MR-8 it would be easy to get the basic idea down, then layer up a few tracks to fill it out.
I ordered one from them last night for $865.99. The alto web site doesn't show it so I read the first few posts from this thread to the sales dude and he broke down and gave it to me for the price others paid. Also got a MXL 603 for $74.99.
