Metalcore Bands and Gibson SG guitars

You guys are all wrong. Have you ever looked at the average metal-core guitar player? They aren't doing it to be cool. They're skinny little twirps who can't support a Les Paul. It's not their fault. You guys should feel sorry for them.

    Newer bands

I'm glad that you love Avenged. I hope you loved them before city of evil though as well. They are an amazing band. If I had to classify them I would say they are a mixture of metal and hardcore or metal-core.

    No direct out on amp

lol.... Your amp does have a headphone jack. Try pluging a 1/4" cable from that to one of your lines in. It will suck, regardless of how you do it though. But that should sound better.

    shure sm57 into computer

Worst route: Get an XLR to 1/4" cable, and a mono 1/4" to 1/8" adapter. Now plug the mic into the cable, into the adapter and finally your MIC IN on your soundcard. Better route: Get an XLR to XLR cable and a simple preamp such as the Audiobuddy. Plug the xLR to XLR cable into the mic, and then...

    PreSonus FIREPOD mic inputs

The firepod has 8 neutrik combo connectors. They let you plug in an XLR cable or a 1/4" cable. I love them.

    POD XT - Direct Recording

There isn't a S/PDIF out on the Pod Xt, only on the Pod Xt pro. I don't find the usb out on my pod useful at all for recording, theres too much latency. I run it into the line in on my firepod and it sounds pretty good. The usb is good for controling and making patches on your computer for your...

My 1st beat, how is it?

I really liked your bass line, kinda has a M.J. feel to it. Although I really hate anything with chipmunk samples.

    Critique my mix...

Not really a critique on the mix, but I think fear factory would sound great with acoustic drums. With more of a snare line, a driving roll of sorts. You should call up Travis Barker, I'm sure he's cheap.

    Newb question... recording in stereo

Come to think about my last post, I didn't really anwser your question. To reproduce what you hear, just record it as a mono track and then pan it to the center. I'm not sure what program you're using but in cubase theres a button on every track to make it either mono or stereo.

    Newb question... recording in stereo

Your guitar is a mono signal. That isn't a sterio signal you're hearing though your computer speakers, its a mono signal panned center to both speakers. The reason your sound quailty is soo bad is beacause you are recording direct. It's next to impossible to get great direct tone. I use a POD...

    Basic Recording Question

Hey Beth, Any program will do the same job of recording your guitar. People choose their software based on personal preffernce. Some people like cubase, or pro tools or cake walk and so on. These programs are offered in different pacakages depending on your budget and needs. I assume you're...

    Home studio, help needed

You need to re-think this drastically. If you have a pile of crap, even if you add more crap to your pile, you still just have a pile of crap. A drum kit mic'd with 12 cheap mics going though 12 cheap preamps isnt going to sound as good as the same kit carefully mic'd with 4 or so quality mics...

    Home studio, help needed

You have to worry about skill first. Then equipment. A great AE can make a tape player and a sm57 sound good. A poor AE couldn't make the best pro tools rig sound good if his life depended on it. Unfortunately I tend to fall into the latter. Before you invest all your money into this studio...
