    MCI JH-110 A-2 won't move tape

This nice old producer I know gave me a MCI JH-110 A-2 - needless to say I'm over the moon. However it doesn't move tape. Most lights are working except on the section with the transport where only "torque limit" light up. Nothing happens when I press play. I wondered if these could have a...

Thoughts on the Neumann KMS 105

I mostly use mine in the studio so if my reply is irrelevant sorry for wasting your time :-) In the studio I dig it for certain voices but it really shines on hihat, ride, fast sounding percussion like shakers, at times acoustic guitar or electric 12 string. It comes in handy if a certain singer...

Girl in the Garden | Electric Scar Hey everyone... My friend and I have just finished our first album. It's inspired by Stooges, Stones and lots of other classic rock 'n' roll but there's also some hints to soul and psychedelia. We did the record as a duo with some guest appereances from mates...

    Tots: Surfboard (new wave/punk)

Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps I exaggerated the lowcut in mastering. Can I send you the unprocessed mix?

    Tots: Surfboard (new wave/punk)

Surfboard by tots | Free Listening on SoundCloud Lately I had the pleasure of recording these guys at my small analog studio. They're kind of punk and new wave, to my ears there's a bit of The Cars, Libertines and Television to their sound but that's highly subjective I guess. Recorded with...

    Electric Scar - Rubber Boy

Thanks :-) Well, you're right. I didn't hit the tape hard enough on the floor tom track so had to compensate by gaining the track a great deal during mixdown. So it has a curious sound to it and also increased the hiss on the right channel as the tom is hard panned. I do like my LCR mixing :-)...

    Electric Scar - Rubber Boy

So I'm in this duo with an old mate. Till March last year we had never actually played together despite of a similar taste in music and love for analog recording. We've finished an album of mostly classic, dirty rock and roll with him singing lead vocals, writing the songs and me playing the...

The Motivation Radio - Be My Anita Pallenberg

Bruthish: 1) Main guitars are really tinny and bright 2) Vocals are very buried and hard to understand. Could be that everything is walking on everything else as not much separation. 3) was this done to a click track or metronome? Sounds out of time on parts...could be something else out of time...

The Motivation Radio - Be My Anita Pallenberg

Hey there... This is my first post in the MP3 clinic but hopefully not the last. Haven't been focusing that much on writing my own music in the past year, more recording other bands and playing various instruments in a duo with a friend who writes all the songs. However I do run a casual solo...

Been messing around with this song lately and finally got a friend to dub a nice female voice on top of my mumbling :-) https://soundcloud.com/jonathanjgaard/the-motivation-radio-be-my-anita-pallenberg-feat-maria-alwan

    RMT branded SM911 and SM900

Sorry for not giving a heads up before now but the tape was late so we ended up using old BASF SM911 for the session in question. However I had a session later with the RTM SM911. For a start everything was golden but when we reached the last half of the tape things became a PITA. Had the bass...

    Post Your Analog Recordings Here...

Level Everything, what a tune... lovely :-) My mate and I have put out a new song. Inspired by equal parts bubble gum and good old Velvet Underground. He does the vocals, guitars and songwriting, I handle the bass, the sloppy drums, tambourine and recording...

    Post Your Analog Recordings Here...

Another day at the office but what a day. This is a catchy tune from some guys I'm working for called Tots. They got a Libertines, The Sainrs and Television vibe going as I hear it, sure as hell knows how to write a catchy song all while it sounds as if they're falling down the stairs. Very...

tascam 38 help - dead take up reel and VU

Can you get the take up reel spinning without tape? If you can I'd suspect the tape is sticky. Years ago I personally fried the capstain of a 38 I've spent loads of time trying to fix by moving sticky tape.

    RMT branded SM911 and SM900

Hey James... been ages, good to have you back on HR if only for a while. I'll run a session with it on Sunday and Monday and will report back. Had problems with RMGi tape in 2015 and wouln't risk it was the same badge still sold.

    RMT branded SM911 and SM900

Yeah, a long play version of the SM900 is a great idea indeed :-) Gonna try and ask over at Gearslutz. They probably have strong opinions about it already :D I'll bring my saltshaker.

    RMT branded SM911 and SM900

Hey there! Any of you know what's up with the new company producing the old BASF and AGFA formulas? It's made in France so suppose it's still Pyral. However has anyone tried it yet? I had some trouble with two reels of Pyral made SM911 a year ago, hopefully their quality control has improved...

    good 80's/90's analog consoles/mixers.

If you by any means have the space available to ignore the "not too wide and heavy" thing DDA desks is a steal. For between 400 and 1000 pounds you can get a fully pro desk that sounds like a record, is reliable, easy to repair and fully modular. I love our early 90's DDA Q more than any other...
