Free program taking multiple inputs at once?

Hey there! I'm recording exclusively on tape though I need to make some backups from tape using my friends' Tascam 16-track soundcard. My question is if there's any free program suitable for this purpose? Audacity won't do the trick and I'm afraid my trial of Adobe has expired.

Will amp vibrations affect tape heads?

We're sometimes so loud our drummer has a hard time hearing what he's playing. Only had occasional dropouts when using very old second hand tape.

    Post Your Analog Recordings Here...

New Spökraket album Here goes an album of psyche, shoegaze, acidfolk and weird studio experiments. All recording and mixing is done in the analogue domain, the mastering job is done in digital as we figured it would cost us lots of cash to make an analog mastering without building up more hiss...

    Mixing FROM tape

Recording to tape, mixing on analogue to the computer cause we can't afford a proper 2-track deck capable of 15 ips.

    Annoying fret buzz on Jazzbass

My mate's Squire Jazzbass (pretty good one actually) has an annoying buzz on the A-string. The problem started after being transported poorly and after that it's been adjusted by a decent luthier yet the problem is still there and is audible on an amp. Anything we can do to fix the thing or has...

Teac A-3340 Head adjustment / alignment

BUMP. I'm pretty sure you need a calibration tape. I'm in a similar situation myself and I'm sure some of the experienced people in here can help you out.

MRL tape for Fostex G16 and Model 80?

Thanks for all the valuable advice! Would I be able to calibrate myself with the advice from this website and the TapeOp article or should I try to get some guy to show me IRL? There's a guy in town being quite an expert in Fostex-machines but he's hard to reach and semi-retired as he's pretty old.

MRL tape for Fostex G16 and Model 80?

Hey guys! I'm sorry if you had similar questions too many times before but can anyone enlight me on which MRL test tapes I need for a Fostex G16 (half inch) and a Fostex Model 80? Any good places to buy them from new? At the moment they both sound fine but I fear the day a mechanic breakdown...

    My Situation.

I'd never had a problem running really hot levels on either the Fostex G16, the Model 80 or the R8. It still gives the tape sound, especially I love what it's doing to the cymbals. But maybe Miroslav is referring to the sound of hot levels with the Dolby noise reduction enabled? Personally I...

M Audio Fast Track Pro won't record at 96000 KHZ

Hey guys! Wondering if you could help me out here. I'm gonna mix/add analog effects to some stuff for some mates of mine. It's recorded on digital but I wanna mix it on tape, so we sent four tracks out to my Fostex reel-to-reel from an M-Audio and it went kindda smooth after messing around with...

Casual listening decks - open reel - favorites?

A Revox A77 sounds just great if it's in decent condition. In addition it colours the sound nicely, even when just using it as a preamp.

    Beginner/Entry-Level Options

I might say this every time the subject of purchasing an 8-track pops up, but I'll say it again never the less: The R8 was mentioned - and you might find many of these machine and they're the newest of the Fostex 8-tracks (1990-1996). But their transport is really crappy with lots of plastic...

How to tell the year of AGFA PEM 469?

Alright, I'll take your word for it mate, you're really into the strange science of telling good tape from bad. BTW you were right about 3M 996 being fine - in fact they're awesome. Had some shedding on first pass but one the second there was next to nothing. My depts is running wild though so...

How to tell the year of AGFA PEM 469?

I've got five reels of 2" AGFA PEM 469. Browsing this forum and the net I've found that early batches got a reputation for shedding horribly, but some sources says that later batches should be fine. Is there any way of telling from the box what year they're from? Don't have any 2" machine so...

Converting vinyl to digital - Newbie needs help

If your turntable and hi-fi amp is decent, phones out to whatever input your soundcard is taking usually works fine. Just remember to keep bass and treble flat. Connecting the turntabe directly to the sound card probably won't work as most turntables need a RIAA amp in order to send a proper...

Getting a deep voice heard live when the band is loud

Honestly I don't know if this is the right forum as this is mostly a problem in live situations. The thing is that I occasionally does live sound enginering (not very good at it, prefer the studio). I often find that deep male voices don't cut through the mix at all, and feedback becomes a huge...

    The (overly?) clean sound

Mess around with mic placements. If the mix sounds too clean or cold due to a dry sounding room and mics standing too close to the source - try playing either the entire mix or selected track to a room with natural reverberations. Two other things I always use that works for me is tape...

Resto/x-fer of Fostex A-series recordings, from the mid-80's

Not sure the A-series got NR, at least not A4. Though it wouldn't be surprising if Fostex found it more urgent on the A8 because of the narrow tracks. If you're without a built-in Dolby C and the recordings was made Dolby encoded, it's no disaster. I prefer the sound of Fostex-machines with no...
