I have a PL5 and it sounds just like the 635 - anyone buying an old one should remove the internal foam which rots and either powders or turns to mush - that may well be the reason that wireneck has such a big diffence in his. I really like the PL5 on small cabs.

Oh, another one to mention thats not too expensive is the Hartke Bass Attack DI, my bass player got one thrown in with a bunch of stuff he bought and its actually very versatile and quiet.

A lot of people claim the art mp is good as a bass DI - you can get them on ebay for about $30.

I ordered a couple of cinemag traffos to replace the cruddy one in one of my frankenstein preamps, definitely the best buying experience of the year - fast, friendly and efficient. Lets hope the transformers are as good :)

The overheads will get them just fine, maybe get one for the floor tom - you can pick them up for about 70-80 bucks on ebay, my friend puts one on his 18" floor tom and its earth shaking. Edit: The ATM25 can be great on bass cab too, sounds lovely on my buddys ashdown.
