I completely disagree. I think Brandon Boyd is an amazing singer. And from the live performances I've seen (which include all of their DVDs and twice from the front row) he displays excellent mic technique.

it's probably based much more on good mic technique than it is on compression. he pulls back when he sings loudly and gets close when he whispers.

if the number of channels isn't a factor, i wouldn't really take the Octane into consideration at all. i don't have any experience with the Line 6 product. but, i love my tampa. and i definitely think it's great for Bass DI. and it has a great compressor.
