While not ideal, the most acceptable tape to use from the lineup would be the 406. The only difference vs the 407 is that the 406's polyester backing is half a millimeter thicker. There are varying opinions on how this would affect the recorder's transport, heads and recording/playback specs...

If ATR could make it a +3 or +6 1 mil then that would be cool, something along the lines of Quantegy 407 / 457. I agree that it's frightening to see people use ATR's +10 / 2mil tape on home decks.

Gary, nice, clean, simple and functional set up. Nothing wrong with it. I'm sure that many of us have stuff that we don't really need but keep hold of it anyway.. I oft say that I sure wish I had a simpler set up but it's tough to get rid of stuff, especially when it's not really junk. ;)

I've seen this guy advertise the same items for many weeks / months for overblown prices. I feel circa $300 is about right for a truly minty 246, less for average condition and, if it's new old stock / boxed then a bit more maybe... I'm not totally, jaw to the floor surprised one went for $400...
