    1950s recording question...

Ah, to hell with all the advice in this thread! All you need to do...is put six crappy microphones in your room, put EVERY band member in there, then put a low pass and a high pass filter on the master bus to make it sound like its from the 50s...then you're done. Don't even bother "mixing"...

New "metal" song? Ovarian Omelette :S

Band came in and recorded this a few weeks ago. I have no idea where the drums came from, they gave me a multitrack of them but the drums sound off to me. I just recorded guitar, bass, and vocals. I tried uploading it to Lightningmp3 but it wouldn't take/send me an e-mail. First song on the...

For a first release, what is better, an EP or an LP

We have enough material to release an LP, but would it be more beneficial to pick our five best songs and put them on an EP record for promotional use? What do you guys think is a better route to take?

    **The $250 vocal chain question?**

Yeah, I think the vocals sound good...I think the beat is pretty weak, BUT I like the lyrics and the flow. Vocal clarity is there. I think it sounds great. :)

    best cities for music?

Omaha, Nebraska has a great amount of bands and venues. Anything from country, to folk, to Americana, to rock, to hard rock, to metal, to black metal. Everything is here -- quite a melting pot. Anyone who says otherwise clearly has never been here or taken the time to see what there is to...

Hooking a pair of KRK RP5's up to my laptop?

For the Firebox...just install the drivers and configure the OS to use that as your sound interface, rather than the Mac's onboard sound. Should be golden then :)

Foreshadow, a progressive rock song, lyric opinions and suggestions?

I will probably have a pretty hard time figuring it out...how I want it all to sound. I'll try to update this thread once I get something going :) Thanks zzed!

Foreshadow, a progressive rock song, lyric opinions and suggestions?

Basically, the song is about a person wanting something else out of life, to move somewhere, or to make a major change, but realizing what they wanted was here all along. The music hasn't been arranged yet, but I would like to follow the haiku styling I put forth in the lyrics, by having the...

    Any info on Audition 4?

You should be able to run AA3 on Vista and Windows 7. I have accomplished both. Make sure you get the 3.0.1 patch -- this fixes a lot of issues. You're missing out...1.5 was good, but you've really gotta get AA3! Best of luck ... ! :)

Opportunity to send music to Universal A&R rep please help quickly!

Yeah...this stuff sounds real good. You must have a good producer and studio at your disposal. Good stuff my friend. As far as the order goes...I think that song with the pinch harmonics all over the place would be a good starter to get some attention. Then, maybe drop in Crash and Burn...

Repairing Stereo Drum Mixdown with Multi-Band Compression?

    I love SSG's analogies :D

General Rock Mixing Guidelines in RMS..

The best thing I've found to do is bring up the drums first. Then bring up the vocals. I always want my vocals to sit well with the drums. From there, I bring in the bass. Guitar and other atmospheric sounds are last. Try doing it with your monitor turned off so you aren't paying attention...

    The Cure Disintegration Cover

Man that reverb on the snare is taking me back to the 80s. This whole song is, really. But hey, its the Cure! First impressions...listening...it sounds great sonically. The kick sounds loud, but keep in mind I am at work on a really shitty speaker system with one speaker and a subwoofer. Oh...

    "Say it Aint So" Cover

Hey man, I'm only listening to the song on a system with a subwoofer and one speaker. But so far it sounds pretty good. I think you've got a good acoustic sound there! Turn the guitar up man :) it sounds great ...... And I also like the singer too. Good tone and note sustain. I've only...

Beatles Cover - Come Together ... check the mix?

Also, I wanted to add that Soundgarden already covered this song...and is a LOT slower than our version. YouTube it.

Beatles Cover - Come Together ... check the mix?

This is a remixed version of the mp3 run through Maximus...I lost the original mixdown pre-Maximus and am too lazy to re mix it down. Enjoy yourselves. http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?id=20390

Beatles Cover - Come Together ... check the mix?

I'm confused about this mud. I put a high pass on the guitars and did no other boosting or anything. There are hardly any plugins used on this mix...Compressors on a few things (kick, snare, vox). Guitars ARE panned hard left and hard right.

Beatles Cover - Come Together ... check the mix?

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. MBC is a multiband compressor. Neither mp3s posted in this thread had any thing post-mixdown done to them. I was simply saying I played around with another mix I made of it a few days ago and put an expander/gate on the track to bring it up a...

Beatles Cover - Come Together ... check the mix?

Interesting that you mention this. I was comparing the recording to other professionally made recordings and noticed that the mix does seem to be stuck in the middle. I then ran it through a plugin made by Image-Line, called Maximus. Its a "mastering" plugin that I use a lot on dance music...
