    Any Good Lyric Writing Books?

Right on with the Sheila Davis reference, miles. *Craft* is an excellent book, as is her *Songwriter's Idea Book*. Don't have *Successful Lyric Writing*, but then again it's more of a workshop sort of thing. Just did a quick peek at amazon.com and saw that there is a *Songwriting for Dummies*...

    air travel with guitar

Don't know if there's anything to this thought, but I've heard that it's generally not a good idea to have your guitar placed in storage. Someone once explained to me that the lack of air pressure in cargo will cause funny things to happen to your guitar, including but not necessarily limited...

    Double Tracks or Duplicate?

Hey, crosstudio's comments made me think of another option: try *triple* tracking your guitar a la Randy Rhoads. Listen to some of the leads, particularly on *Blizzard of Ozz*, and you'll hear guitar left, guitar right, and center. Producer Max Norman said something about how intense it was...

    Reggae sound

You really think so, 64Firebird? I think of ska as kinda being like that, with bass drum on the 1 and 3 and snare on the 2 and 4, but I thought reggae emphasized the bass drum on 1 and the snare on 3, so it's much slower. I think of "Spirits in the Material World" by the Police as being a ska...

Have you ever played really awful and it both amazed and depressed you?

Hey escatun, I think it's just a matter of ignorance. The average person doesn't *really* know enough about music to know if you or I are good or not. My wife, for instance, considers herself to be a person who doesn't really know anything about music, although she listens and asks questions...

    The Reference CD dilema

I'm probably not really qualified to spout off here, but it sounds like you're frustrated with the seemingly overwhelming number of choices you have in front of you (OH, THE POWER!!! :P ) in terms of "flavoring" your music, nave. I'm still in the process of learning how to route signals and use...

Have you ever played really awful and it both amazed and depressed you?

I'm with Henri on this one. Our band's big homecoming show (in little ol' Oakland City, IN  ), and our first two or three songs we sound like five guys who just met outside and decided "Hey, let's try to play these songs that none of us really know and that we've never ever rehearsed...

How about "sardonic" and "boutique"? Or maybe "tectonic" and "technique"? :D :D :p :D :D :D

    live sound vs recording sound

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but dropping the mids isn't really the way to go, is it? I seem to remember someone here at this board giving a pretty thorough analysis of why you don't want to do that. Had something to do with the fact that the guitar is, essentially, a mid-ranged...

    World's Best Ever Guitarist

No no, I was trying to help. As if anyone can *really* tear it up on a uke :D. Here, I'll do better with this next bunch of crap: ____________________________ Hey, how about Uncle Pecos? I just remembered him and his great stage presence. . . "Jerry's Uncle Pecos spends the evening with his...

Never heard him on guitar, but he tore it up on the uke. Need we say more?

    World's Best Ever Guitarist

I was gonna stay out of this topic (aside from my highly witty reference to Thurston Howell III, that is), but I just can't do it. I have absolutely no self control. I have to agree with the person(s) who said this should really be about Favorite (rather than Best) Guitarists. If I've said it...

Why did you choose your guitar?

Mine's a Washburn WR150. . . and I didn't choose it. It chose me. Actually, my wife bought it for me for Christmas because I had played it in the store and was amazed at its playability for the $200 pricetag. Plus it's a purty metallic bronze color.

    World's Best Ever Guitarist

I got this really strange image of an older guy in a natty suit, wearing a yachting cap and calling his wife "Lovey" with a drawling voice. Then I realized you wrote "Thurston Moore" and not "Thurston Howell III" — how silly of me. :D

    Octapad vs. Octapad II?

I recently started a thread about the operation manual for the Octapad Pad-8. I finally received a message from a guy who I thought had a manual for it, but his reply below left me hanging: "All I have for the original Pad-8 is the service manual, not the operation manual. I have an operation...

    Manuals, anyone?

Hey y'all, I'm trying to locate an operating manual for the Roland Octapad Pad-8. So far I've located only 2 online possibilities, and I was wondering if any of y'all have a regular source you use for just such a situation. In case anyone's wondering, the two I've found thus far are listed...
