    How to play guitar...HOLD UP!?

Guitar is what I would call a complex instrument, because there are many factors to the tone/sound that you get. It's far more complicated than pluck, pluck, pluck as any beginner trying to play "Spanish Fly" for the first time can tell you. As Phil stated above if you were to finger out an...

Why do people set up microphones and recording desk in seperate rooms?

Originally, there were two reasons for putting the musician or vocalist in one room, and the mixing desk/recorders in another. 1. The room that is recorded in tends to add ambience to the room - grand live rooms, etc. The recording/mixing room tends to be engineered to be as dead as possible...

Members average number of rack units and a list...

Mofo brought up some good points across the board, many of the gear you posted about are not overly useful for a variety of reasons. You might be better off purchasing one, much more powerful unit like the TC Helicon stuff and asking it to serve multiple purposes. That's another advantage in a...

    Work in Progress

No comment necessary Phil... listened to the radio edit and it's clear you know what you're doing. I'm debating shoving this in my mp3 player for the week :D

Anyone have a favorite solid state multi-track recorder?

Good point. Any portastudio that you like and uses an IDE hard drive can be converted to SD/CF media by purchasing a $20 or less adapter. So if you already have something, you can make it solid state cheaply.

need help with patchbay for my set up

You don't "need" a patch bay, but doing so gives you several things: You can extend the patch bay to a more convenient place - often mixer and outboard jacks are on the backs of the units, making repatching more work, and a patch bay allows you to have the jacks on the front of your console...

    Fire Engine

Fire engine sirens are rated to produce 120db at 50' of distance, so if you mic closer than that you're going to have an SPL level much closer to 140db. If your company is a volunteer fire department, you're unlikely to have any problems whatsoever with "wasting their time".

    DM3200 dimensions for desk?...

Probably not what you're looking for idea wise, but I built an all-steel, open frame console desk for my various mixing consoles. The first picture is with just a few pieces of gear, the second picture shows things mostly loaded. The picture you linked to is actually not that difficult to make...

Transsexual Mutant Monster Beach Party On Mars - Greg_L original

This the funniest, well put together piece I've heard in a year. Thank you for the laughs, with great music/lyrics behind it. The only comment I'll make is remember that transsexuals start off as men - a flock of them, high heels or not, just might hurt ya ;-)

    Left Handed Piano!

Another option is to do a "split" on your midi keyboard controller and put the upper registers on the bottom half of the keyboard and the lower registers on the right side of the keyboard, with the split say, at middle C or maybe B This way your keyboard isn't totally reversed, and you can play...

Why the use of multiple keyboards?

I have many, many synths and modules simply because it became obvious to me very early on that no synth really does everything well, so having access to multiple synths can cover more instrumental ground. The other advantage is each synth/module has it's own output since it's a separate unit...

Your most successful published song, how much did you make?

Fair enough. However, our society measures success by wallet thickness, and nothing else. Oh, and big tits. But seriously, read my other comments. They are true. There is no box.

Your most successful published song, how much did you make?

Hmmm, tell that to Gene Simmons, who readily admits he got into rock-and-roll to 1) get laid constantly 2) be filthy stinking rich. I assure you, he's not the only major success who did it for reasons other than "passion". Gene just had the balls to admit it openly. --- Question for you -...

    The Secret To Great Recordings

If you don't mind my commenting, I would put mic placement and mic choice above the room. The reason being is there cardiod mics available with very tight, close patterns and they're very useful when recording in a less optimal space. What you do is put the mic in front of the singer, and...

    voice not powerful enough.....

Two balance to tracks, vocals and instrumentals in your case, you have to turn the vocals up or the instruments down, or sometimes both. You want to turn the vocals up as far as you can go without distortion, to have the most headroom to record your voice. Then adjust the instrumental part...

    Tascam Users Forum Down?

I too am a fan of older tascam gear.. TMD4000 and several TMD1000's cascaded together. Works well. I have no idea why that forum went down, but I will tell you that hosting your own forums is a real pain in the ass. Technically, it's not a big deal but the larger any social group gets the...

    The Secret To Great Recordings

That's actually pretty fair. I just took his words less literally. Interesting, and on more than one level I agree with you. I view things a little differently though as my mind the recording room is an instrument in and of itself. I happen to like jazz, and have recorded quite a bit of it...
