i was definitely trying to get the attack of the kick beater to punch through. like you said, maybe an hf boost on the snare is in order. how are the guitars?
thanks propman! i was going for a more roomy snare, but you're right, the kick is upfront by comparison. maybe i need to turn up the close snare mic and lower the room. you're right about melodyne! listening again, there are definitely a few warbles that i'll need to go back and punch in.

Would appreciate your comments about the mix, arrangement, performance, etc., thanks!
wow very interesting song! lot's of ideas going on - kinda reminds me of pete townshend's comment that he could write several songs from the ideas in one of entwhistle's songs. sounds great - i'm diggin the bass verse groove and the ambient guitars that start later (in section G? haha).
i wish i had a voice to pull off some of that harder stuff :o - i dig a lot of hard rock stuff, esp. older classic rock, and some shredder/glam stuff, but wow, those guys have some serious vocal range. maybe it's time for a pitch shifter unit - ha!
good idea adding a little more 'verb, the snare does sound a little dry.
thanks for the comments, bro. i hear you about different styles of music. it's wierd - i feel more comfortable playing groove/funk-based stuff on bass, and rock stuff on guitar - so this song was me just trying to...
I'll check tonight - I'm using rvox, I think at more that subtle levels.
I bumped the vocal eq at around 200-250 a couple db's, cut a little at 2k to dial out some harshness, and shelved at around 8k for air. Maybe the 2k cut is the culprit.
Perhaps there's too much reverb putting the vocal...
thanks for the comments guys - very helpful. now listening again I can hear the issues you're talking about.
the synthy patch is indeed supposed to be horns - it's a shareware virtual instrument - i guess it kinda sounds like it too. :o
anyone else?

Would love to hear your comments about the playing/singing/mix/arrangement/etc., thanks!
Thanks Xeries! Yeah, the bgv's were a lot of fun to do. I was trying to cop that "Mutt Lange" sound a little bit with the falsettos. :D
You're correct, the kits on AD have a lot of tunable parameters. You can also dial in the amount of rattle you want from the snare (which actually turned...
Thanks for the suggestions! I'll probably try to layer in some bgv's in the prechorus and chorus sections. The outro actually has a "chording" solo (my best Edge impersonation :o), maybe I need to bring it forward in the mix a bit.
That makes sense to me, I'll mess with the verb settings a bit to see if I can't make the snare and hat a little more cohesive. I'm just getting my feet wet with this HR stuff and appreciate all the comments!
God bless,
Roger
Hi Shawn,
Thanks for the comments and insights! Much appreciated. The samples are dry, and I added the 'verb in the plugin. I'm still tweakig the hat - it's been tricky to get a consistent, pleasing tone, esp. since the song has both open and closed hat parts.
The snare and hat are mono...
Thanks for the comments!
Yeah that's me, and it's an original. I've been playing music for a while, but I'm just recently getting into recording. It's been fun getting ideas together and building a song from the ground up.
The bass is real. I played a Sadowsky 5 Jazz Bass (it's like a...
