do any of you play pedal steel?

Get ready to laugh your asses off. This is a piece of soft maple I hacked up, stuck an old acoustic guitar fretboard onto it. A set of chinsey classical guitar tuners, then attached my Roland GK3. It works beautifully! :D Bettin' jimi's havin' 2nd thoughts about my involvement in this project!

Ideas on escaping a creative rut and learning something new?

With no sarcasm or smugness intended: Make music. Maybe listen to some Arabic...Oriental...Celtic...whatever ethnic flavor and phrasings...forget what you already know.

Is it possible to record a rock record using midi/as a one man band?

Don't worry too much about perfecting/de-perfecting. Build your song, and adjust to taste. It really is that simple.

    Linux DAW ???

I actually should try it again, with the intent on starting from scratch, and not trying to make it work like a windows machine. That was probably a big part of my problems with it....trying to get it so it would work with my projects already in progress.

Is it possible to record a rock record using midi/as a one man band?

I've been programming drums for 25 years ,the first 15 using an Alesis HR16, the rest using samples and the midi editing of whatever recording software I've been using, Ntrack at first, then Reaper. I just let the song unfold, and don't worry about the relative realism. Any realism that might...

    Linux DAW ???

About 5 years ago, I set up an ubuntu partition, got Wine installed and had Reaper running fairly nicely.Next day, it wouldn't boot for me. Perhaps something completely simple. I didn't bother to find out. I just don't have the time to get familiar with it, no matter how disenchanted I get with...

No expert at micing, but I'd love to hear the result! I love the Silk Road Ensemble. They play some Arabic sounding pieces. Looking forward to hearing it.

Damn. I thought my GK3 was intrusive. I would think they could make it a bit more aesthetically pleasing.

Across the Universe - Beatles Cover

Even the pitchy spots weren't terrible. I just mention it because it seems like more of an issue than the 12 string, which, to my tin ears, sounded fine. :D

Across the Universe - Beatles Cover

I don't hear a huge problem w/ the 12 string, but the vocal is a bit pitchy. Sounds like a first take. Not a big problem, but not as perfect as one might expect. I feel like a dick! :(
