    Ceiling Advice Needed

Velvet (or do you prefer Elvis?:)) - That makes perfect sense. As we would do it here, is to hold the rockwool in place with a layer of thick plastic foil (1/50" or so) tacked to the joists. This creates an airtight seal and more important, a water tight seal so the humidity in the air doesn't...

    Onboard audio and raid question

It is true that RAID 0 has no redundancy, and is therefor often considered "not true RAID". It even has worse redundancy than a single drive as if one fails, you'll loose all data on both drives. Write speed is better than a single drive though. Due to the lack of redundancy, RAID 0 is often...

    Workstation Design

My favourite tools for designs of this sort isn't exactly freeware or shareware but cheap enough: Paper, pencil, eraser and ruler. :) You shouldn't start using computer design tools unless you can make a basic drawing on paper. As for materials, MDF is your friend.

    Ceiling Advice Needed

Are you sure? Maybe you're right but I would guess that e.g. rockwool would help the soundproofing. I would have guessed that some rockwool attachet to the plywood would help stopping e.g. sound from rain. Then some air and finally the layers of sheetrock. Keep in mind that the best...

Another dummy with an IMAC - now what should I buy?

Ha ha, you're right. I've nearly forgotten the days of w98... I've been using w2k since half a year before it was released and I've never had it crash unless I messed up. Knock on wood. I stil use w98 but I have just a few non W2k compatible games on it and as long as you keep the number of...

    Onboard audio and raid question

You don't have to use the RAID on your mobo but as far as testing and turning it off if you don't like it - well, that's not really how it works. You need multiple drives for RAID and once you configured your RAID setup, the drives are sort of dependent on eachother and you need to reconfigure...

Civil engineer check: The false rafter design looks a bit hairy. You will be adding outward forces to the top of the walls, which may cause them to break... Youa would need to add rather low rafter ties to keep the walls together: BTW, are the walls of different height? /Ola

Another dummy with an IMAC - now what should I buy?

He he, pristine user interface is in the eye of the beholder as well:) Any computer that matches the stability of the iMac I use is best off as an anchor. Trust me, this Mac hangs at least once per hours. I hate it. I only use it because the web stuff I produce has to be Mac compatible. I used...

Another dummy with an IMAC - now what should I buy?

Why do you want to buy an iMac in the first place? They're utter crap i.m.o. Get a real computer instead, not just a large calculator. The built in CD player is presumably just that, a player. I'm pretty sure you need to get an external burner.

An interesting approach to eliminating PC sound...

I'm glad to see that there are more lunatic Swedes besides me. I'm have been planning on doing exactly this but was worried about the limit of IDE cables. I was told that 12" was the limit but apparently, they sell 31" cables as well. Nice.

Another dummy with an IMAC - now what should I buy?

A computer shold be your first purchase:D No really, your options are limited to USB devices, no? Look around here for posts on USB and/or laptop recording. There are a few audio interfaces with USB but I haven't tried any so I cannot make recommendations.Same thing goes for CD burners. As...

    Golden Section Dimentions

What do you want to know? The ratio is: (rot5 + 1) / 2 which is about 1,618 or 1/(rot5 + 1) / 2) which is about 0,618 It's a irrational number. The ratio is one number in the Fibonaccio series, divided by the next, or previous, number in that series. If you continue the Fibonaccio...
