  1. Change of POETS

An honest question from someone who doesn't understand rap...

I'm a believer of Hip-Hop as the culture, and Rap is the artform of expression. I make Hip-Hop music, and Rap music. It's synonymous. However, the analogy I gave between Disco and Motown is legitimate. Media, record labels, etc... all tried to push Disco as the "new motown" and the Motown...

So, I signed with a Booking Agent.

Yeah, so I had a show in Detroit a few weeks ago. Tough crowd, all black... everybody looking at me like I was green or something. Like I was an alien. Two other white dudes got up and did their thing before my set... they couldn't have paid people to get on the floor. Nobody was feeling em...
  3. Change of POETS

An honest question from someone who doesn't understand rap...

That's funny, cuz a ton of the horrible hip-hop I hear comes from blacks as well. Yet the moajority of them get a "pass" because of the melanin factor. Regardless of color, wack rap is wack rap. It's unfortunate that the populace is so moronic at this point, they can't tell the difference...

    Best venue's in your area?

Unless you're established, and can draw in crowds who are paying for tickets, this is pointless. Paying to rent a theater for a performance is something I'll never do as an indie. I can book bars/clubs etc, and get paid to perform. Paying someone so I can perform, on the hopes of breaking even...
  5. Change of POETS

    Question Impossible!!

I would estimate at least one hour per track, at $35 an hour. So, about $600.
  6. Change of POETS

    Question Impossible!!

All music on the radio is NOT played at the same volume. This is what started the volume wars in the 90's in the first place. Certain radio stations started boosting their levels with the concept of louder = more noticeable. The more noticeable your station was, the more listeners you get, which...
  7. Change of POETS

    Question Impossible!!

Even so, every song played on radio is from a mastered CD which is generally limited (by todays standards) upwards of -9dbFS RMS. Radio then sends their signal through a compression limiter boosting the volume even more. That's why you have to turn your volume up when switching from standard FM...
  8. Change of POETS

    Question Impossible!!

No, do not normalize the track. All that will do is make the peaks of your file match the peaks of the "radio" file. If you want me to master the track for you, I will. I do single track mastering for $35.00

    trying to master stuff...

I normally don't use the L2. I use the L1 and ometimes the L3. However, you can link the threashold and output volume in the L1, and not have to worry about the monitors. In the picture I've linked below, if you click and pull down on the blue arrows, then it will lower the threshold volume...
  10. Change of POETS

    Question Impossible!!

You can't. There's no such thing as "special frequencies for radio". The adjustment of frequencies via a parametric EQ in the mastering process is for one purpose only... To bring out the best in the song. To Highlight certain aspects of the arrangement, and bring out the best, fullest sound...

Whatcha guys think bout a HR website?

I guess I don't get what it "adds" to our exposure that Soundclick, Myspace, Purevolume, Uber, and our own personal sites don't... Building a website for the sake of building one is, well, pointless.... Unless you have a marketing plan to gain exposure for the sites, and a reason to draw...

    in need of major help!!!

Well, every individual project is backed up to DVD as well. But the master backup is the external drive. If the client wants more assurance, then they have to pay for it.
  13. Change of POETS

    in need of major help!!!

    Considering it doesn't leave my studio, I don't think it'll be a problem. :D
  14. Change of POETS

    in need of major help!!!

The last 3 times I ran a repair from the boot disk, it wiped the HD clean. I would suggest that as an absolute last result.
  15. Change of POETS

    in need of major help!!!

The price of an external hard drive is so minimal when it comes to things like this. I picked up a 250GB external for my music projects, only. I never have to worry about losing that data now.
  16. Change of POETS

An honest question from someone who doesn't understand rap...

This is what it boils down to... To these idiots running (and ruining) the music industry, it's about money. 12 years ago, it was, but it wasn't... Execs made money, but artists were able to create what they wanted. They were able to cultivate at a record label, and spurn growth in their circle...

An honest question from someone who doesn't understand rap...

I feel you jibran. I don't think he went too far. It's not like he was calling someone that, he was using it to prove a point. A point which he nailed on the head. I make all types of music. I make very good commercial sounding gangster music, and I make highly lyrical underground music as...

we should do a comp. cd

Exactly. After the mixing stage takes place, the mixdown will be one stereo wav file which will then be mastered. If Mindset is going to mix the project, I'll offer up my services for Mastering the project.
  19. Change of POETS

we should do a comp. cd

Exactly. What you're referring to Desert, is called Stem Mastering. Which is when the Mix engineer sends stems (separate groups of sounds) of instrumentation to the mastering engineer to master in unison. Some believe this yeilds a better product. I don't necessarily believe that's the case all...
