    Soundcraft Spirit Folio 4

Dementedchord, Thanks for the tips. Yeah, I saw Jim Williams posts in all the 200B threads I read. Though I had thought I saw a post commenting on, surprisingly, the stability of the stock power supply. And good idea on the master section. I was going to start on the channels, but I guess if I...

    JJ Electronic tubes

I just got a pair of 6L6GC JJ's put in my '65 Ampeg B-12 while having other work done. Sounds great. I don't drive this amp real hard, but I push it enough to get a nice warm tone. Sounds as good as the Sovtek's and EHX's that have been in it in the past. But, again, I'm not pushing them to...

Tube amp ~ Switching cab's on standby?

Last week an engineer plugged in and turned on my '65 Ampeg fliptop for 2 hours without plugging in the speaker. It was in standby atleast, and I can find no harm ...atleast not this year. I recorded with it for four days with no trouble. Was scared at first because I'd just had the input...

    Soundcraft Spirit Folio 4

Went with a 200B Thanks for weighing in nonetheless. After finding loads of buzz about 200B's and little about many of the Spirits I went with a 200B instead of a 1202 VLZ Pro or the Folio. I've found the article on star grounding a 200B and some other posts here and on gearslutz about...

    'Y' xlr cables?

It wasn't occurring to me that mic pre inputs are 1K+. Yeah, 1: I guess I am splitting hairs; and 2: I think we might've been matching gear that was going from high to low, or the chief engineer was just splitting hairs...

    Soundcraft Spirit Folio 4

Guess I have a better idea why I couldn't find much user experience info about this board. I passed on it for lack of info and because I couldn't try it first.

    'Y' xlr cables?

Aren't there almost always impedance issues with simple Y splitting? Are Y cables ever really good? I'm not an electronics expert, but when I worked at a radio station years ago, I remember making resistor pads (H-pads) to split signals (or just to match different signals) because of impedance...

    headphone amps

xstatic, goog point about the zip ties. I looked at them again last night and noticed they were actually little twist ties, like for a bread bag. Pain to put on, but easier on the hands if you dress them well.

    headphone amps

I imagine you've tried prying up the retaining tabs on the Cat5 cable ends? In the studio I've been working in that has them, we've been moving them all over the place with no troubles. They've also zip-tied the pairs of Cat5 cables together to keep them more manageable.

Question about using copyrighted material in my own works

Reproducing copyrighted material in any form without permission, as I understand it, is a copyright violation. Regardless of profit. Whether the copyright holders will chase you down is another story. I would guess probably not.

    Soundcraft Spirit Folio 4

Does anyone have any experience with a Soundcraft Spirit Folio 4 console? I'm specifically wondering about warmth or preamps (I hear good things in general about Soundcraft), overall noise, and reliability. I've been close to getting a Mackie 1202 for practicality (like that Alt 3/4 buss), but...

    headphone amps

Hey, was in a studio tonight and saw and used this: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Furman-HDS6HR6-Headphone-Distribution-Amp-System?sku=241501 Furman HDS-6 4 mono channels and a L+R stereo channel. Cat5 wires connect up to six mixers that each have 2 (tied together) headphone jacks...

    Are these mixes any good?

Great tunes! Real nice harmonies (vocal and chordal) and writing. Well done. And nice mixes too. Do you listen to Ben Folds?

Roller Girl tracks are up if you wanna mix it.

So, I thought I'd take a chance to mix this many tracks - I usually deal with fewer. I also did this entirely in headphones due to a woefully under-treated room (working on that) and a six-month old baby. http://media.putfile.com/Mix-of-Roller-Girl I used some compression on the voices to...

    Solid State Amp - EXPLOSION!!!!

+1 on the no output transformer. If it's a spade connector (possibly inside a plastic housing) have you tried crimping it with pliers to make it a good, tight fit? I agree. Maybe attack one thing at a time so you can better determine the effect of individual fixes, and so you can reduce the...

MIDI controller connection to synth module

In Performance mode the Roland should receive on all midi channels unless it has been disabled (not the default). Of course unless you send patch change info, you'll get whatever patch that performance program has set for the channel you're sending on. In Patch mode it'll receive on only the...

    Patchbay Half-normalled?

You are certainly combining the two signals from what you describe. My question is if the keyboard does anything special to combine them or does it just do it the way you're doing it. I doubt you're hurting anything. If you are able to record it effectively and get a full frequency response and...

    Patchbay Half-normalled?

That's a nice idea. But I would want to know if that's how the keyboard combines the two signals, i.e. are they simply combined, or are they 'mixed' to adjust the output level/impedance, or is the keyboard processing a mono signal differently for the sake of patches or effects?

    please help!!!!

Besides the top two strings droning through the whole progression, the only thing I hear is fret buzz at 11 sec. If the thing is subtle and throughout the entire clip, have you tried EQ'ing out narrow bands selectively from the mid-highs and up? Or better yet, a different mic'ing technique? (see...

    Original song: Mary Anne

Hey, really nice tune. I think it sounds good, has good vibe, and is a good story. I would only suggest that you might want to try it up a few steps. I think you're in a good range for your voice throughout most of the song, except for the end of the choruses: "it's not you, sweet Mary Anne."...
