    Warm Effect On Vocals

They say the B2 is the same as the RODE NT2, and I did like the NT2 on my own voice... I may get a B2 some time just to see if it's true. Isaiah

$160.00 to BURN - On What?

Where did you get a 3035 for $150? I auditioned one at GC, but I didn't really like it...although I guess it depends on the situation. Isaiah

$160.00 to BURN - On What?

Get two Marshall MXL 603s's and use the extra $40 for a couple of mic stands. Voila! Isaiah

Better ways to record a CHOIR ??

Get 2 quality condenser mics in a stereo XY pattern, get them about 6 feet off the floor, maybe 8-10 feet apart, and 10 feet back from the band....record away! ...and use the same technique to do the choir. Isaiah

    New Drum Set

The guy at the local Guitar Center was tryin' to throw me a sales pitch for that little electronic job... I diplomatically turned him down. I did, however, find what I wanted at another place... the Mapex V5254 and the tom expansion set... I should be able to have a 7 piece set with good...

    Is there such a resource?

I was annoyed by the Shure website, because some of the artists' applications listed were really intended for stage use, and not studio... Isaiah

    the shure genre

I like the SM57 because if you drop it, there isn't a stupid metallic windscreen that gets irreversibly dented....and you can fit its narrow body into crowded areas with more ease...I hate any mic with a ball windscreen, generally, although I think the SM58 is my favorite mic for lecturers, etc...

    MXL 2001 and 603 noisy?

Almost any condenser mic will be tons more sensitive than an SM-57, so their self-noise may be more apparent... Isaiah

Good Drum Kit for under $700 (cymbals not included)

Funny you ask... I'm looking for a kit as well, and just today I stopped into a local music store, and I really liked this one Mapex kit they had. It was $550, including hardware (no cymbals)....it's totally snazzy, the kick is REALLY fat and thumpy, the snare sounded great...anyway, I fell in...

    Is there such a resource?

The Telefunken U47 and U48 were both allaround general purpose mics in the 60s...seems like they used it on everything. Although the Shure 55 seems like what usually comes to mind when I think of an "Elvis mic". Isaiah

Is it the engineering, or the drums?

Hey, I am the KING of making things sound more complicated than they really are! :D I think I know what you mean, though... it would probably help to spend some time in an actual studio and see what they do. One of my favorite drum sounds is the stuff from Aerosmith's "Dude looks like a lady"...

Is it the engineering, or the drums?

I listen to a lot of music, and there seem to be certain unclassifiable "styles," if you will, that distinguish certain drum sounds from others...particularly the snare - there are the "bang" ones, the "whack" ones, the "oomph" ones, the "plap" ones and the list just goes on and on... I've...

    Making up my mind...

Wow...I guess it's quite advantageous to live in the country, eh? No traffic...the only noise would be dogs barking in the distance, wind and occassional rain. I guess it really doesn't matter where you build your studio when you don't have to worry about outdoor noise, huh? Man I'm lucky...

    Multi-Pattern microphone choices

I liked the RODE NT2...it has 3 patterns, I believe. Kind of cumbersome, though, if you want to mic instruments, as it's a bit large and heavy. And the proximity effect seems to radically diminish in omni mode...I haven't tried a lot of multi pattern mics, so I'm not sure if that's normal or...

    Making up my mind...

I want to build a studio eventually, but I have a few problems. I live at home - with parents and all. We have 10 acres and don't use even half of it. Here's what I'm having trouble with: Should I build myself a nice little studio on my parents' property now, or should I wait a few years...

    Drum set/allround mics

The MD421 MKII's sound excellent on toms, and hand drums as well. They really bring out the "bong" sound that those types of drums have, without getting boomy and honky, (for lack of better terms) Isaiah
