    Evans vs Remo

Coated emperors on top for everything, clear ambassadors on bottom, aquarian superkick and regulator on the kick. I tried the studio-x heads once and really liked them but when playing shows they just didnt cut through. I might have to try them again though now that Im doing more recording.

    Rimshots

Pretty much every hit on the snare is a rim shot for me, unless im doing a fast fill or anything that needs some finesse snare work in it, then the shots will just be for accents. It does chew up sticks but I love the sound.

That pic was taken about 3 years ago. It has since been cleaned like I said in the post above.

    WTB: Cymbals

Its about 5 years old but it has been off my set for over a year. It has a little bit of keyholing and the white marks in the picture have been wiped off for the most part. I used to play with the barker sticks and they got paint all over my cymbals. It would be shipping from Naperville IL...

Need More Inputs for Recording - What Should I Do?

The ADA8000 wont work in your situation because it only outputs in adat, which the firepod doesnt have. How did the AT2020 sound on the bass drum?

    Vote For Yer Shtix

I used to use the zildjian barker sticks then I switched to vic firth 5B this past summer but after running through about 4 pairs in a month I switched to the vater 5B which last a whole lot longer

    Some general druming questions.

Snare is a bit higher than my thighs with about a 2 degree tilt towards me. I like it pretty close to flat because just about every snare hit is a rimshot. Pinky on the sticks, pretty close to the end of the stick. Thighs are on a slight angle down when resting on the pedals.

    Broke and prioritizing purchases...help please?

Monitors changed everything for me. My stuff sounds so much better now than it ever did before. It translates well to every other stereo in my house which I've never been able to do before when going on headphones or computer speakers. If you want monitors on the cheap, eBay is your friend. I...

    Bass Drum Woofer Question

I dont own one but have pondered (sp) the thought myself. From what I gather they add a deep low end to the kick. I built a 22x22 kick for a customer and if its anything like that it will shake your house. Most people seem to use two mics, one for the kick and one inside the woofer. If you do...

    Monitor Volume Control

I was looking for something rack mounted and around $100. If I could afford a central station I'd be all over it but thats way out of the budget. I may just have to grab the presonus hp4 and make a rack mount for it or something. Thanks for the suggestions, anyone else?

    Monitor Volume Control

I was wondering what everyone uses to control the volume of their monitors. I have some powered monitors on their way and I can use my mixer to control the volume at home but I head back to school in a month and I really dont want to bring the mixer (its a decent sized 20 channel board) because...

I have nothing but good things to say about the Layla 3G. It has worked perfectly since I installed it and I have had zero issues with it.

    Poll: Best soundcard brand

I have an echo Layla 3G and its been awesome. Rock solid drivers, great sound, easy to use. With 8 analogue ins and outs, inserts on 1 & 2, adat and spdif in, its a steal at $500 and I got mine used for $375. Everyone will say that it will be outdated soon when pci express takes over but my...

    echo layla problem

I had some problems with mine at first doing the same thing. When I tried locking the sample rate it never worked so I changed it to the variable one that changes depending on what your using in your program. I also found that I cant have my recording software (samplitude 7) open at the same...

    Shure E2c earphones...

I have had them for about 2 months now. Im using the smallest soft rubber earpiece that comes with them. They did take some getting used to. They hurt my ears the first couple of times I wore them but they have become much better. As far as sound isolation they are great. The sound is pretty...

How much money do you have invested in your studio?

In just recording gear, I have a little over $1000 in stuff but I only paid about 700 for it. The computer is another $1200. I have about $1000 in software that I got for free and over $6000 in drums. I saved alot of money by buying alot of stuff second hand and building things myself...

    Best soundcard for my budget?

I have the layla 3G for about two months now. Its been great, very stable, and plenty of I/O. I cant really say how the preamps stack up to anything else because Im not very experienced with pre's. Im using samplitude 7.2 and have been recording 8 tracks at a time without a problem. If you need...
