Effect of capacitor value on tone?

No, you have it backwards. A capacitor is a high-pass filter. That's why a simple 1st-order 2-way crossover will have a capacitor in series with a tweeter - to prevent the low frequencies from reaching it. (An inductor will be in series with the woofer, to filter out high frequencies from...

    Hey, Mutt!

I hate you! :D But I love your new guitar. P-90s definitely have a zing to 'em. Enjoy!

    Clean Amp

Right you are! :) Same with an AC30 - heavy as shit for 30-watt output.

That looks beatiful. :D What do these self-appointed "experts" know, anyway? :laughings:

    Clean Amp

A Fender Twin is well-known for being a good-sounding clean amp - headroom for days. A Deluxe has less headroom but also sounds good at low gain settings. Although Vox AC30s are thought of (correctly) as being great crunchy amps, with the gain down they are beautiful-sounding clean amps.

    dimarzio pickups choose help

Agreed 100%! They'll push the front end of an amp nicely but they still retain tone and articulation. Good all-around rock pickup. Maybe a little hot for very laid-back applications.

    Technique/style/sound question

....another thought.... Seems like a lot of the shitty Youtube videos I see of guitarists "demonstrating" how to play this or that are almost always playing through some kind of high-gain amp, modeler, or software plugin. This, to me, seems a very bad practice to get into, unless all you are...

    Technique/style/sound question

Using a high gain amp as most shredders do compresses the guitar's sound so much that dynamics are essentially lost. This relieves the guitarist of the need to sound notes with a consistent amount of energy, as the gain of the amp levels everything out. So if you take that shredder and put him...

    duble input amp (Vox AC15C1)

Nate, I can't imagine that an A/B running into both inputs could hurt anything. I have the same situation with my AC30CC but i just end up staying plugged into the TB channel most all the time.

My Fulltone wah pedal's pot is open - I can easily get a little Deoxit in there without having to take the pot apart.

    Homemade Cab Problem

Arcaxis may be right. Although I have (unintentionally) used an instrument cable for a speaker cable, it wasn't with a high-powered bass head. Try a speaker cable. BTW, If you have only one speaker, it doesn't matter how you wire the speaker to the jack. Also, your speaker is not going to...

    Gluing down bolt-on necks...

Gaffer's tape ftw. Pack voids as necessary with talc, as Mutt said. If disassembly is necessary, remove the glue residue with WD-40. :)

    Pick your pick

I did forget to mention the quite nice tortiose and ivory picks made by Mutt. The tortiose is great for acoustic work, and the ivories seem to lend themselved a little better for electric work. I don't consider them consumables so I use them lightly. :)

    Pick your pick

For electric work I use Dunlop Jazz III, the Eric Johnson version. I used to use the small teardrop-shaped Fender picks in medium, but could go through one in an hour of playing because of the attack angle I use. The Dunlops wear forever and have a good shape and thickness. For acoustic stuff...

    Can't get rid of hum/buzz!

Same circuit as a computer, right? Fan running on the computer all the time? Electric motors are notorious for introducing noise in an AC circuit.
