Probably a long shot, but I'm wondering if it's possible to construct your own tapes from cheapo cassette shells and loose tape for use in portastudios? I have a Tascam Porta two High-speed 4 track which requires Chrome, High Bias, Type II, 60 min tapes. These are difficult to come by these...

Oh, and I forgot to mention... There's a four digit serial number stamped into the metal housing at the base: "4345". Other than this, there are no other external markings/logos on the mic. Also, the silver coloured portion of the housing is anodized silver over what appears to be a brass...

I keep seeing these on ebay Australia and they are pretty damn cheap, and as i'm currently scraping together a relatively basic (read: cheap) studio, these caught my attention. I'm guessing they're nothing special and quite possibly not worth spending any time and money on, but you never know...
