    acoustic recording

We'll have to get an expert or an insider to answer this, but I thought the SM57 and SM58 were nearly the same mic. I was once told that they used the same capsules, but ones that tested out so and so went into 58s and the others became 57s. Someone on this board once backed me up on that, but...

    AArdvark Q10

I don't think that exists. It would be sweet if it did, but I don't see how it would work.

    AArdvark Q10

The Q10 control panel has a meter AND a 0db clip "light" for each channel (it actually comes on at about -.5db). Also, if you turn on the peak button, the meters will leave a mark at the higest point they've reached until you hit the reset button. Ptron

    Console View: Fit to screen?

That's a nice lttle trick but it don't work none too good in console view;)

    AArdvark Q10

I'm not entirely sure this is what you mean, but in bottom right of the control panel there is a " button" that says "peak". If you turn it on, the meters will hold their peaks. Ptron

    Overhead Mic Showdown

This is exactly my situation too... except for the Foo Fighters and Radiohead thing... and that I would also be using them for acoustic guitar. What about Rode NT5's? What do you folks think of them? A local store sells a pair for $260. I haven't seen these talked about much here since I've...

    Tape compression?

One thing a really miss in the digital realm is tape compression. Back in my analog days (6 months ago), I used to use it all the time, especially on drums. Is there anything in the digital world that can even aproach this effect? Getting that raunchy, ballsy, vintage rock n' roll sound of...

    Console View: Fit to screen?

O.K. That's got it. 1024 X 768 gets 98% of it in the monitor. I wish you could resize just the console and not everything else, but I can live with this. Two monitors? ...I think could live with that too. I hope that in the future (as flat screens get cheaper and cheaper) it will be possible to...

Has Anyone Tried to Make their Own Drum Mic Mounts?

Yep. I used two spring clips for each one. I cut several short peices, maybe 2 or 3 inches long, of pine dowel. I don't remember what diameter the dowel was, but it was just about right so that i could force thread the mic clips on each end. Then I drilled a hole crosswise through one of the...

    Console View: Fit to screen?

My problem is not too many tracks, i.e. a left right thing, it's an up down thing. If the faders and meters are in full view, then the FX bins and buss sends are out of it, and vice versa. So when I'm twiddling an effect, I can't immediatly see or make level adjustments. I think I see what...

    Console View: Fit to screen?

In Sonar 2.2XL, is there a way to get the console view to fit on the screen? I don't use the console view much, even though I'd like to, because I can only see half of what's going on, and all that scrolling gets old fast. Ptron

I apologize for this post: Sampling Rate

 sigh. I understand what samplerate and wordsize are (I record everything "important" at 24 bits) , what I meant to ask was, if those much more experienced than I in digital audio, thought there was any point in recording at higher sampling rates, even if the music would eventually...

    Sonar 3.0 News

Oh hell, who am I kidding. I'll probably still get it... eventually. Question is then, what does a good job of sample rate reduction for free, or at least dirt cheap, since I can't afford to buy Soundforge or Wavelab just for one feature? Ptron

I apologize for this post: Sampling Rate

Sorry about this. I know this has been gone over and over but I'm still confused about what sampling rate to record at. I've heard so many conflicting arguments. Recording/Mixing at a higher sampling rate, then reducing has sonic benifets. AND Recording/Mixing at a higher sampling rates, then...

    Sonar 3.0 News

Yeah, that's what I did when I got the electric cricket chirp. Not only is it a pain in the ass to go through that process, but the result is unusable. I've only tried it once though. Yes, Sonar should include this feature and no friggin'way I'm buying 3.x until they do. I was pretty amazed...

    Sonar 3.0 News

!!! I wanna know this too!!! I recorded several things in Sonar 2.2XL @ 96 just 'cuz I could. When I finally got around to dumping them down to 44.1, not only did I have to jump through a lot of hoops to do it (save it as this, then save it as that, then...), but the end result had a bizarre...

    Ramming Speed

Yeah, It Does. That was kind of my thinking too. I was just thinking ahead a bit on if I ran into problems or had a little extra cash (Ha!). Just kind of curious too. Of course! It's an Asus P4P800 deluxe with a P4 2.4gig CPU Specifications: Supported CPU:P478 Pentium 4 / Celeron HT Chipset...

    Ramming Speed

A short while ago I upped my Mobo and CPU to a P4 @2.4g. Due to $ constraints, I just used my old 2x256M PC2100 RAM. Everything's been fine so far, but I also haven't pushed things as far as I might soon want to. You know, lotsa 24 96 tracks with lotsa realtime FX. I was curious as to how big...

most overrated mic of all time

Aw man! This is how I find out how everything I've recorded in the last six years was a waste of time? At least now I know it's the mics, and not my music that sucks. Ptron
