Definitely face towards the downstairs for vocals as mjb mentioned, and it will help get rid of some of the reflections back to the mic. Also - that open space to the downstairs is a natural bass "trap", or bass "exit", as the case may be. :-P

Why don't you just use the USB mixer you have, and buy a USB midi interface for 40 bucks or so like the M-Audio Midisport? I think it's always better to have more channels just in case you need it...so maybe the mixer/interface is more than you need right now, but it is always good to have...

If you are still having a problem, I would recommend that you create an account at vsplanet and ask for help over there. There's a lot of experienced guys over there that don't hang around over here, so you'd probably get more help at the planet.

Also check to see if the CD really burned the data even when it said operation failed. Some of them said the disks were fine even with that message. And then the other thing was checking what version of the OS your machine is running as earlier versions had bugs for exporting. Good luck.

Doug, When you record your son's band, in addition to the nt4, you also might want to record 2 tracks with the Zoom's internal mics as room mics, to give you even more flexibility with 5 tracks for mixing. The internal mics aren't that bad....they are usable. Just a thought.

If you have enough money, anything is possible.
