Hey, I see this one RME soundcard has a balanced 1/4" in, but I was told you cant hook a pre-amp to a soundcard via a 1/4" because the phantom power wont go through?
How would I hook up a pre to this card then?
I have an Echo Mona, however I just want better quality.
So if I can come up with $1,200.00 what is the BEST quality soundcard, and pre-amp I can get for male rap/r&b vocals?
I already have several mics, AT4047, Rode NTK, etc, so I want a high quality pre, and a better soundcard.
HELP!
I have the Echo Mona, the version with the 4 mic inputs on the front.
Is there a big difference in quality, between it, and the MOTU?
If there is, I'll sell the Mona, and cop the MOTU, if not, then I won't bother.
Or, I should say, WILL get the MOTU, right now I have the Echo Mona, the one with the 4 mic inputs on the front.
Is the MOTU worth the xtra over the Mona, or quality wise, are they about the same?
I'm trying to get the best quality set-up I can, for the $ I have.
I purchased a MOTU 828 MK II, and an AT4047, now I need monitors.
I have about $800.00 to spend, what are the best POWERED monitors I can get?
I was looking at the Alesis Prolinear 720DSP, but are these the best choice?
Yep, it is a soundcard, it just hooks up through firewire port.
A friend of mine recorded a sample on his, using an AT4040 mic.

No, you wont need the soundcard you have now with an M-Box, as it's a USB interface.
I've owned both, and I sold the M-Box.
I like the option of having an external pre, with the options the Roland has.
I dont have to stick with one sound, like I do with the M-Box.
The M-Box offers focusrite...
Honestly, no.
Soundblasters are not recording cards, and do not record at 24bit, to my knowledge anyways, contact Creative to make sure.

Bulls Hit, I used a Shure SM57 for recording vocals on an M-Audio Audiophile card, with no pre-amp, and never had a problem with the volume of the vocals.
Alot of soundcards have 12volt pre's built in, which is enough to my knowledge to give your vocals a boost on a dynamic.
Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but soundblasters do not RECORD at 24/96, they simply playback at that.
They are more of a gamers card, not a recording card.
There's pro's and con's to each, so this is more or less personal preference.
The EMU seems to be a great card, however, I cannot comment on the pre's, as Ive never heard them in use.
The Aardvark's pre's are ok, nothing special, but it's a nice set-up.
The roland pre is real nice for the...
Ok, I'll give you that, but I've been doing this since about 1997-98, and Ive never had any problems from it.
I DID however take music when I was in school, from about 3rd grade, till my senior year,so that helped alot Im sure.
