If you are using PC, you can look into the RME Fireface 800, or Motu 192HD, both have great quality. If your using MAC, the only way I'd go, is Metric Halo, which has excellent quality, and some kick ass pre's.

The reason I listed 8, was because I already own 2, and I have everything set for an 8 channel set-up right now.

This would depend on rather you want PCIMIA or Firewire. If the first, go with the E-Mu 1616M, you won't find a better interface for the money. If firewire, this depends on your budget...however. RME Fireface Motu Traveler Those are some I would seriously look into.

Nope, never had ringing in my ears. I monitor at a decent level, and take breaks away from the mix for an hour at a time, to let my ears rest, and re-adjust to normal noise. No ringing yet.

If your working with a MAC consider going with a Metric Halo unit, and using they're Channel Strip and Spectra Foo software.
