I had planned on buying a Neve Portico, as I love the way a never sounds, and I'll take everyone's advice, and come back in a day or so, and show a different list, after I talk with my partner, and we'll see what's up.

If you are using PC, you can look into the RME Fireface 800, or Motu 192HD, both have great quality.
If your using MAC, the only way I'd go, is Metric Halo, which has excellent quality, and some kick ass pre's.

This would depend on rather you want PCIMIA or Firewire.
If the first, go with the E-Mu 1616M, you won't find a better interface for the money.
If firewire, this depends on your budget...however.

Nope, never had ringing in my ears.
I monitor at a decent level, and take breaks away from the mix for an hour at a time, to let my ears rest, and re-adjust to normal noise.
