Problems connecting a MIDI capable keyboard via audio interface into Ableton Live

Possibly something not working. As I don't use Abelton, I can really test anything out for myself. But perhaps download Reaper and see if your MIDI works in there. If it still doesn't, then there could well be something wrong. If it does work in there, it could just be something not set up right...

    What equipment should I buy

This. Really should have been one of the first things you bought. But what's done is done. Then you could think about adding more preamps [in addition to the ones that will most likely be on your interface]. Could also then get some better mics and some better monitors. Maybe an extra screen to...

Problems connecting a MIDI capable keyboard via audio interface into Ableton Live

It's not an input port, it's a MIDI port. You have to set it up in MIDI settings, not input settings. Enable the device withing MIDI settings and it should work.

Bass recording - DI, Sansamp Bass DI

"Bass -> POD XT -> soundcard" By soundcard, do you mean the standard one that is attached to your computer's motherboard? Or do you have a dedicated audio interface?

Only in a HOME studio...protecting your studio from children

Or 5) Get her to join in. Teach her the ways of the home recording artist. =D Never know, she could get awesome at it, end up getting some fancy real studio job, then looking after you when your bones are slowly turning to dust. ;D

    What DAW do you use?

Reaper. Though Pro Tools isn't exactly difficult. Just a bit more of a learning curve. Reason is just terrible. Never have liked it.

    Aunt Zelda

600? Hardly much. What a tight git that Zelda was. No wonder everyone stayed away from her at the christmas dinner. =P I'd have to say Ibanez and Schecter are some of the best in that range. I believe over in the states, you get get Agiles for that kinda price too. May be able to find a low end...

    let me see your studio!

"any tips on positioning or anything are more than welcome!!" Both the top of your Mac and your monitor speakers could do with being at ear/eye level. The first giving less strain in your neck, the latter giving you a better listening position. That chair looks like back strain waiting to...

3 questions on choosing a PC for audio recording

I'm sure we could, but it'd cost us a good amount on shipping. But be there is no actual Newegg in the UK, no. We do have similar sites though. Scan being one of the best for computer parts. Certainly the most reliable I've come across. CCL is fairly good for computer stuff too. Often has some...

3 questions on choosing a PC for audio recording

Scan.co.uk, buy your parts separate and put them together yourself. Great prices there. They also have some ready built "music" PCs too, but as everyone says, just a gimmick. Build it yourself, you'll save money and having to put useless parts inside. If you don't know how to put a PC together...

    Upstairs Studio Build - Pics

Cheap compared to the same thing using brick. Believe me, you should feel good that you can get a house so awesome for whatever price it cost. Cos if you were over here, you'd not have nearly the same amount of space. The land to build on itself is gonna cost you an arm and leg. =P

ipad/tablets & the future of recording

I reckon they'll be, if not already, great for recording on the go. Like an even more portable laptop. But they would never replace a dedicated computer. I know a lot of people use them as controlelrs though. As a portable, digital mixing desk, to control parameters in the DAW and such. So it's...

Using my voice in songs for things other than singing?

Look up Sigur Ros. A lot of their "lyrics" are actually just made up words from a handful of sounds. Gives the impression that something is being sung, but no real meaning. There's also the basic oohs and ahhhs, but I find that can get really boring, very fast. Not to mention, it doesn't exactly...

    Upstairs Studio Build - Pics

Canadian wood being some of the best there is of course. =] Luthiers love it just as much. We build our houses with concrete, cinder blocks and bricks. Some of the older and/or more expensive ones use stone too. But then, that's one thing that is great about all your wooden houses. They are very...

Stupid Question #1: Why More Than One Computer Monitor?

It's just as good to get one large, high res monitor too. But for a single 30" screen, you could get two 24" screens. Which is why you see more multi monitors than single, huge ones. I'd love a triple screen [(2*24)+(1*30)] set up myself. But right now, I just have to put up with my single 19"...
