    Bass amp head as pre-amp?

DI is a line level signal. You don't plug a DI signal into a hi-z input. Also, a Hi-z input should take active pickups fine, if you were to go direct from the bass, but as DI sends out line level, you should need to use a line input. I use a 1001RB-II myself, and like to use my DI with EQ on...

Updated to New PC,.. now in need of a new Interface to work with Window's 7 64 Bit...

Are you sure you don't have regular PCI slots too? I have a couple on my mobo. and if you're only going to need a 4 input interface, you can go pretty much anywhere to find good ones. 1200 seems like a silly number for so little too.

Looks like a cool studio. Some nice gear and sounds. =]

    Dual Screen 60hz Hum!

Plasma screens are not good for audio work. When you don't have a moving image on the screen, they tend to burn the image into the screen. LCD or LED would not give you that problem. As for the hum, are they both on the same power? Plugged into the same socket or something? Perhaps one of them...

Is buying recording hardware really necessary for a windows 7 system?

If you want the best quality out of your sounds, then you really can't do without a dedicated interface and proper, XLR mics. But if you're just wanting to get sounds down into some kind of demo format, where quality doesn't matter a whole bunch, USB mics and whatever will be fine. You can still...

2.8 dual core or 2.2 quad core i7

To which I said, there wouldn't be much of a difference between the new dual core and his current dual core. The biggest difference will be in the quad core. =] Even then, not enough to take that over the RAM and drive.

laptop tips? need to go mobile

It's not the OS, it's the crap that the computer companies put on there. But yes, it's always good to have a fresh install, without having all of that stuff on it too. Windows 7 has barely any problems with drivers for new equipment. If you're using old gear, it may well only have drivers for XP...

2.8 dual core or 2.2 quad core i7

There will be a difference. Just not one that is going to make a "wow" kinda difference. and the CPUs were both i7s. Core 2s are about 2 generations back? Maybe 3 by this point. Even then, Intel are so far ahead of AMD, that they have actually been upgrading very little. Just enough to stay in...

2.8 dual core or 2.2 quad core i7

There's not going to be a big difference between the dual core to your current one. The quad core could make things a little easier for the computer, but i doubt you'll notice that at the low clock speed either. I'd just get yourself the better drive and extra RAM. That's where you'll notice the...

    FL Studio vs. Cubase

I have to agree with kcearl. Cubase is a great programme. The first one I ever really used too. Frooty Loops is cool, but it's structured very much in a way for electronic music. It's possible to record anything with it, it's just aimed towards that side of production, so the workflow just goes...

laptop tips? need to go mobile

Of course it is internal. It connects directly to the motherboard. But that is just the module itself. The actual ports to plug in your firewire device should be on the outside still.

Waveforms coming through Blackjack interface very low, do I need an external preamp?

Might sound like a silly question, but is your phantom power turned on?

So, what are you working on?

A week since the last update to this thread? Awwww, I'll change that! Just got done on finishing up bass on the 2nd track of the new project. Added some extra gritty vocals to the first song too, with this song yet to gain any. But hey, let me know what you think of the raw bass recording for...

    This should be a sticky

You should totally save your shitty recording as MP3 too. Just in case you haven't quite shit all over it enough yet.

That really depends if it comes with TI as stock. My mobo did.

Amp head - Send/return effects for home recording

Quite alright. and Mesa generally build pretty good amps. I'd personally love a Dual Rectifier. The tone is something I fell in love with right away.

Amp head - Send/return effects for home recording

Depends what kind of effect. Pedals are usualy made to take instrument level signals, whilst rackmounted gear is usually made to receive line level, which the loop is usually going to be putting out. Things like compression, reverb, delay, graphic EQs and such are best off after the pre-amp too...
