    computers

I built one from parts I bought from Scan. It cost me about £700 about 3 years ago now. Even then, I got a graphics card, which isn't reall necessary.

Emulated amp out to Laptop line input

I think OP is trying to find something similar to iRig or Apogee Jam. Though as I believe these are both for Mac, perhaps someone knows of a Windows version for OP to use?

Fast PC, have to keep buffer at 1024?

I found those numbers interesting. and I thought I'd see what numbers my Firestudio Project spits out. Using Universal Control to set the sample rate, and Studio One to see my latency, I get these: 64 - input: 1.90ms/84 samples > output: 3.90ms/172 samples 128 - input: 3.36ms/144 samples >...

getting two channels of audio via USB to PC from interface?

The interface is set up so that input 1 is left, and input 2 is right in a stereo recording. You want left and right recording? Plug in 2 mics. Want to stop it recording to left? Record as mono, rather than stereo.

PC specs recommended for optimal recording process

For that money, you can probably get a fairly nice i5 or i7, and 8-16GB RAM. and I'd recommend 2 or 3 hard drives. That gives you a good range. I personally use a 2nd gen i5, 8GB RAM and 3 1TB hard drives. My CPU and RAM do plenty fine for what I do. For a plugin-heavy song, I reckon they could...

Any suggestions on how to mic a guitar amp in stereo??

Two mics, pointed at separate speakers, going to separate tracks, adjust for phase, pan tracks opposite sides.

Should I completely remove all carpet or leave some in?

You should leave in just a brazili... wait, this isn't the right forum. More seriously, I just got some laminate wood flooring in, and just keep a rug under my desk and other heavy stuff to keep them from scratching the place. Other than that, it would seem pointless to hide the gorgeous floor...

Which new hard drive for recording??

I have much love for Samsung Spinpoint F3 drives. I believe the Seagate Barracudas and the Western Digital Blacks are on a similar level. I have 3 Spinpoints in my machine, and none of them have had any problems in over 2 years of using them. =]

Is anyone out there using LINUX Ubuntu for recording? what software?

I'm sure you could get Cubase working through the WINE programme thingy. As for native Linux programmes, I haven't seen a whole many great ones. One of the few things stopping me from fully switching. I use Peppermint a lot, myself. Which is based on Mint, which is itself based on Ubuntu. So it...

    Getting "Right-brained"

"readings I've done on the art of songwriting generally state this is a big no-no" You've been reading things written by idiots. =P Nothing is limited is music. There are no rules. There is theory. Understanding how music works, and why. But it never mentions how it -should- be done. It just...

Shure SM7B Mic and Compressor Question.

"Shure seems pretty bad when they translate there prices to other currencies" My point was that you were blaming Shure. They priced it basically the same. VAT is what the government add, and has nothing to do with Shure themselves. How much it is worth on a personal level is certainly...

Shure SM7B Mic and Compressor Question.

It's £316 with free delivery. Take off the mandatory tax of 20%, and it's £252.80. [US$381.65/AU$365.78] So it's a little over $350, but not to the point of more than it's worth.

Do You Mix From Scratch Every Song?

I'm actually working on some template type stuff myself. I'm always moving between Reaper and Studio One for different instruments, But I have started with some really nice guitar stuff in Reaper, and generally know where I'm going for my bass and vocal stuff in Studio One. Just need to tweak...

    Choosing an Audio Interface

and you could have just given an answer in the same time it took to write that out, rather than being a waste of time. Titan is not being rude, but asking quite nicely for some answers. As for answering, I don't believe you can actually add an 1818 to another, but with ADAT, you can add some...

Firestudio Project solid red light problem

It always helps to actually read a thread before you reply to it. At the time, I remember there was no way to get into Universal Control. The problem was solved by getting a new unit sent out, which has been working for me perfectly since. =]

Using Guitar Wall Hangers In Your Studio

I certainly try to stuff children into cases often. But I prefer the meathook method, like you see with pigs and cows at an abbatoir. Keeps them quiet, after a few minutes of horrific pain screams.

    presonus firestudio project (headphones out)

Perhaps your headphones are broken, terrible quality, or you had the volume too loud. I usually have my headphone out on about a third [10 o clock], and it does me fine. Turning a knob all the way up isn't a sign of quality. Just turn it up to a point where it doesn't distort, and is still loud...

    PC vs. Mac (hahaha)

If I could use my Studio One and Reaper, and play all my computer games on it, I'd drop both, and go a Linux route. =P Probably Peppermint, as i have that dual booted on my laptop, and it's a nippy little bastard. As it is, Windows 7 gives me exactly what I need for all three of those options...

So, what are you working on?

After just finishing up the Koboloris EP, I've been trying to put effort into a new project of my own. Seems like I have lots of good ideas flowing, but damn, am I finding it difficult to put together a full song! Not really sure what is up with that. But I hope it buggers off soon. =P
