I would visit Gigabyte's site, and get properly matched RAM. Otherwise, you should be fine. The board got good reviews at Newegg.com. It looks like a good value.

I'd say either one, for the purpose of recording, kinda sucks. THe Fastrack would be ok, except that it only supports dynamic mikes, not condenser. I'd say save your money and get a Tascam 122 or Firewire Solo.

I'd go with an HP business class laptop of some sort. Their support is outstanding, and the laptops are quite nice, especially for the money.

Echo stuff works fine with any Via chipset, KT133a or newer. I've ran them on KT133, KT333, KM400, and KT600.

I find it interesting that people keep spreading the FUD about VIA. Clearly they have no current experience with the chipsets.

The reason to go with an A64 over an XP isn't really the 64 bit thing, it's the fact that even in 32bit mode, the A64's are much faster.

Good luck changing out the motherboard or power supply in a cheap Dell, if you ever need to. Proprietary crap.

4200rpm is still the standard speed for notebook hard drives. Gateway, Dell, and HP all use these, unless you purposely upgrade. No hard drive over 40gig is 7200rpm standard, unless you purposely upgrade. The only OEM I've ever seen even offer 7200 as an option were Alienware and Voodoo.

Brzilian, where you been, man? I agree with Brz, XP's fine once you right click on My Computer, go to advanced-->performance-->optimize for performance. Plus it has remote desktop, which is cool for controlling a DAW remotely via wireless. Neat article on that at prorec.com.
