    Apple Mac mini for recording?

Tracktion's supposed to be great on a Mac too. Really efficient.

    Apple Mac mini for recording?

It's a shame they didn't design the Mini with 2 SO-DIMM slots instead of one 184-pin slot. Sure the memory would be more, but then you could go to a full 2gig of RAM. Plus the lack of abundance of USB2 and FW ports is disappointing. If it had the sme number of ports and the same...

    m-audio firewire solo... any thoughts?

I'd contact M-Audio first, and let them know which chipset you have, to see if it will function properly with the Firewire Solo.

    Apple Mac mini for recording?

In all fairness, GB is an amazingly bloated app. I was playing with a G5 iMac, and it was choaking on GB. I don't know WTF they were thinking with GB. My buddy's 450Mhz G4 does far more tracks in PTLE than a modern G4 or G5 can do in GB. No shit. For real. :D I'm no Apple fanboy, but just...

    Apple Mac mini for recording?

Yeah I just looked again; the eMac has 2 FW ports, 3 USB2 ports, and two USB1.1 ports. That means you could get a Firewire HD, a firewire interface, and still have places for mouse and keyboard, digital camera, and backup hard drive (always run your audio drive off of the FW port). IF you're...

    Dell Dimension 3000?

The problem is that your observations are extremely inaccurate. My 1.33Ghz Celeron stomps a 1.6Ghz P4 in every benchmark available. Why? 1.33Ghz is more efficient, as it is based on a PIII, not P4. The new Celeron D chips are some of the best Celerons ever produced, and have been getting...

    Apple Mac mini for recording?

I'd go for the eMac. Faster and much bigger internal HD, more available memory expansion, better graphics.

Which Mac Notebook for location recording

I think you're better off and saving your money for a used G4 iBook. Or are you a student? ASU students can get a 1.2Ghz 12" iBook w/ combo drive for $750. That includes the AppleCare. Not a bad deal.

Which Mac Notebook for location recording

I'd get the new Intel Centrino PowerBook coming out next year. Judging by Intel's roadmap, it'll more than likely have a dual core Pentium M at 2Ghz+

    Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro-939 VS ASUS A8N-E

I always build with Asus, but Gigabyte has a fairly decent rep too. I think Asus' support is a bit better though, such as for drivers.

Help buying a new CPU fan..

Water cooling is overkill, especially for a 700Mhz PIII. Get a Zalman fan, and you'll be fine.

    Powerbook vs Ibook (processor focused)

How can you possibly make that assumption? Also, I don't think PPC Macs will enjoy as much resale value in a year or two as they now, when the x86 Macs come out.

All you diehard Apple fans rejoice now!

Part of the blessing and curse of Windows is that you can get an AMD or Intel, multiple different chipsets to match that up with, countless graphics cards and motherboard choices, etc. Apple has controlled their hardware, therefore has controlled the "experience" and reliability of "things just...

All you diehard Apple fans rejoice now!

I think I've said this, but if Apple survives the transition, I'd be really happy with a dual-core 2Ghz+ PowerBook. That'd be sweet!

All you diehard Apple fans rejoice now!

It also makes sense to go with the company that does the whole deal, i.e. chip, chipset, motherboard. AMD is great (I am a huge fan) but there are so many variables such as chipset and mobo that dont fall in line with Apple tradition the way Intel does.

All you diehard Apple fans rejoice now!

It's not that simple, bro. They could do a propriatary bios and put a "key" in it, and OSX would look for that key upon installation. If it doesn't see that key from the bios that you can only get on an Apple computer, then no install. Pretty easy for Apple to take care of that. I think a...

    Need Networking Help for DAW

Remote Desktop, but your DAW would have to be Pro, not Home. Or you can use VNC, but it's slower than RDP. It works pretty nicely. I use my laptop to control my daw when I am recording my acoustic, because I can run an XLR cable, then remotely control the DAW transports without having to worry...

    Buying a Mac

Dude, I like Macs (ask Elevate :D ) but that was valid in maybe '99, certainly not now.

    Buying a Mac

An insult would be "you're an asshole". "You're an assclown". "you're an ignorant fucking moron". "You're so damn stupid, it's painful to read your posts". Just so you know. It seems many forums have had trouble with the definition of name calling and insulting. Glad I cleared that up for...

    Linux audio restoration?

Good luck getting it to work with WINE. WINE's difficult enough to get working with mainstream apps, let alone obscure niche products. If he were to get it working, it would probably perform fairly well, since WINE isn't an emulator (hence the name :D) but rather mimics the Windows API, I do...
