Ibook 500mhz 384mb ram + what audio interface?

That depends upon whether or not the application being used is altivec-optimized. In some cases it'll be very similar. In others, the G4 would stomp it.

Ibook 500mhz 384mb ram + what audio interface?

the Firewire Audiophile would work well for you, if you already have a mixer with pre's. You may want to go to www.pbfixit.com and read how you can upgrade the hard drive.

    mac vs pc

The best evaluation of Mac vs. PC ever. Who wants a cow, when you can have a Tiger? er wait, that didn't come out right..... What's Linux then? The bastard child of a cow and a warthog?

    mac vs pc

My opinion is that the search button is friggin' cool man. I love those things, the search buttons. Wow!!! They can do 24/96 recording, tons of plug-ins, amazing!!! I love search buttons.

Just making sure this will work (Mac laptop)

Well no, if they sorted out the noise issues (the iMac I am speaking of is first gen) then good deal, I stand corrected. It still is a fantastic computer, for sure. The Mini has it's limitations, but with a FW HD, (and imo bluetooth keyboard and mouse) it's a really cool little box that can be...

Just making sure this will work (Mac laptop)

FYI, the Mac Mini is WAY quieter than the G5 iMac. We have one (iMac) at work, and it's a leaf blower. Nice computer, but a leaf blower. Not ideal for audio, IMO. In contrast, the Mini even with the fan running seemed quite quiet. I know, the G5's faster, but eh.....I want silence.

    MOTU 828MKII or Presonus Firepod?

I'd say the Firepod, but only because I'd have more use for an allinone 8 pre box, as opposed to trucking around a separate pre like the Octane in addition to the 828. Not that the 828 isn't good, it's just not up my alley feature-wise. And there's never going to be a time when I need to record...

    moving to laptop?

I'd generally recommend a Gateway Centrino book, with a firewire interface of some sort. I've had a Gateway for 3 years, and their support is excellent, and the notebook very nice.

Just making sure this will work (Mac laptop)

The 1.25Ghz w/ more RAM would be fine. But no, I would not recommend just going at with with the internal drive, because you're either going to hit a brick wall very soon after 6 tracks, or you're going to be freezing everything, which is nice to have but gets to be a pain in the ass. You have...

    amd64 3,2 too noisy :(

CPUs don't spin. If they do, you have bigger problems than anyone else here. Get a Zalman or Nexus heatsink.

I didn't see it on their site; someone popped one open. Regardless, even 5400rpm isn't enough for anything extravagant either.

Just making sure this will work (Mac laptop)

The Mini comes with a 4200rpm drive, too slow for all but the smallest of jobs. Hence the external FW drive. I wouldn't recommend tracking to the internal 4200rpm drive.

Rain Recording Element R Desktop Computer

    I dunno man, that's still a ridiculous amount of money for a 3.2Ghz P4.

Just making sure this will work (Mac laptop)

One FW port. Once you hook up your FW hard drive (which you'll need) where are you going to hook up your FW audio interface (which you'll need, as there's not many decent USB2 devices out there)? Sure, I guess you could get a hub, but I hate dealing with that mess.

Just making sure this will work (Mac laptop)

No, it comes with an adapter. You can connect whatever you want to it. Just beware of the lack of connectivity.

Rain Recording Element R Desktop Computer

the Rain is just another regular PC optimized for recording, then jacked up $1000. Anybody can either: A: build it themselves. It ain't hard, and I fail to see how the Rain would be quieter than an Antec w/ a 120mm fan, Phantom PS, and Zalman cpu cooler. B: pay someone $100 to do it for...
