    -18dbfs = 0vu

Ok, so when monitoring individual tracks hitting -18dbfs or louder the needle on my VU plugin is nowhere near 0 VU (red) I'm using the ferric TDS plugin to read VU what's the dealio regards:cool:

    Plugin limitations

Why can't we compensate for volume increase/loss by just lowering/raising the track's fader?

    Plugin limitations

I've got a demo of a plugin that doesn't allow me to control the output knob. I'm only using it to increase the gain/saturation and therefore need to backoff output to match the volume without the effect inserted. Is there a workaround ? D

TT dynamic range/ Loud reference master

yeah the WAV i have looks like the 3rd one, and as I say is reading around 9dr... I shall check the lufs. Is there any technical way to read perceived loudness? apart from our ears of course ;0)

TT dynamic range/ Loud reference master

I recently compared the waveform of my masters to some pro stuff, along with a local analog studio. The WAV from my local studio was basically just a block containing virtually no dynamic range (at least visually) however when I ran it through the offline TT dynamic range meter it came up with a...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hosa-CMP-15...skim0x40821-21 yes this is the cable i have. not sure why i have to turn gain pots up on my interface though...? should be line level already. I had to do this once as well when using an external mic preamp (again turning the pots to about 10'oclock)

    Multing/Gain staging question

Ok cool. That aside, with my multed parts, one peaking -10 and another -24 should I increase the gain on the quiteter one so it peaks more around -10. So effectively it'll still sound as dynamic but just as loud as the louder track. Kinda like what a compressor would do but without actually...

    Multing/Gain staging question

I've recently been looking at some videos on youtube with regards to gain staging after theach tracks have been recorded. One tutorial said it's good practice to set all the faders at unity and play the track in its entirety. The guy then systematically went through each track and increased or...

    Guitar and vocals

Most directions for setting up this technique state to use two figure of 8 mics. What I mean is for illustration actually press and engage the Figure 8 pattern on each mic, or, do the instructions for this technique mean I should use figure of 8 capable mics but not engage the setting...

Korg volca sample - firestudio project

I've got my korg volca hooked up from the mini headphone jack to two line inputs on my interface (ts leads) as I was told this is the best way to connect this unit. Trs leads caused phase cancellation and I wasn't getting any signal! However, I still have to crank the preamps on the interface...

    Seaside Grave (clip)

I've looked at my mastering chain in more detail. 5-6 db of GR at loudest parts on the limiter. perhaps less? I'd then lose volume .... ;/ my mastering compressor is only hitting 2dbs of GR slow attack, fast release

    Seaside Grave (clip)

Thanks man. In what way has the mastering damaged the mix? I'm going to go back and redo the vocal. I always assumed that acoustic guitar should be panned center, well at least when there is only one instance of it,as there is here. If you were in a room listening both guitar and vocals these...
