Your Heavy Heart - New song/mix

Got that country-classic rock tone to your mix. You use analog gear? No, Cubase5, MIB. I use a GR MP2NV, a Summit TLA-100, A U-67, Beyer Ribbon, and an SM-57 going in. Not sure what Charlie mics his drums with...he is a Sennheiser endorsee but I don't know which model. Thanks for the kind words.

Your Heavy Heart - New song/mix

Hey Man, I am digging your song "Boombox"!!! Great guitar work..kind of the dead meets Beck. There could be some kind of break to create some tension. but it is really cool....Tom

    let 'em sink

I like this song...not sure about the sound effects. It's has a cool indy/low-fi vibe. The bass isn't very clear...maybe you could work to bring that out. There isnt any attack to the notes...no mids. Tom

Your Heavy Heart - New song/mix

This is sort of a Rockabilly song that I wrote and recorded. I played it to a canned drum track and then, after I had the guitars, bass, and vocals down, I sent it off to Charlie Morgan who played the drums you hear out of his studio in Nashville. I work in Cubase 5 and I use Waves plugs and...

    most underated song writer

Love Tom Waits...he is a national treasure! John Hiatt and Steve Earle are favorites that will never do an arena tour.... Gillian Welch is a favorite too.... You'll start to see a patern here.

My best song in a while?

I brought up the vocal and added some 1KZ...and brought up the kick and bass a little. I like it. Great advice. Thanks.

My best song in a while?

Thanks, Mr Clean. Julianna sang on a demo last year I did for my brother who wrote a nice song for a female. The song got signed to a publishing deal! I've been sending out my own demos for 25 years with very little success! I am going to keep trying to write songs for her to sing. Tom

My best song in a while?

Here is a song I wrote for my daughter to sing. I play all of the instruments but the drums. People seem to like it...although a Nashville type told me that the modulation in the final chorus was old hat.. What do you think? That's not how it feels by Tom Paul 2 on SoundCloud - Hear the...

    Shelter - My latest recording

I hear Rusted Root..but then I am from Pittsburgh..thier hometown. I think the Cello is a bit loud and it muddies it a bit. Nice lyrics..religious if you want them to be...romantic if you see it that way. Watch for that low mids build up in the 300-400 hz area.

    Phoenix Girl

I feel the Velvet Underground in this.. nice. I only heard the new mix and for the song, I think you are most of the way there. Great work with budget gear. All rock is derivative so I don't get hung up on what it might sound like. The lyrics would be my only beef...lots of very obvious...

    Guitar tones?

I agree with everyone else...the tones are great. Maybe the clean guitar could be a little crunchier...but the tones carry the great riffs well. It'll be interesting to see what kind of vocal you give this.

Anything Annoy You About This Mix?

I tend to listen to the song first and the mix if there is something bothering me. It's a great song...I am a sucker for this kind of raw guitar work. It works for me! The coo-coo vocal line, maybe not so much.

My first post - Stay in the Game

Thanks.. I'll look at fixing the guitar. I appreciate your comments. I get the Tom Petty thing a lot..both because of the tunes I write and my singing. I'm not sure what I can do with this song. Do you think other artists would be interested in something like this??

    Unlikelyman (A Kitchen-Sink'd Story-Song)

I love the guitars...real kind of throwback. I have to say that I lost the thread of the narrative...Like someone else said..they need to be very clear.. Good production overall. Listen to Tom Waits "Franks wild years" for a really cool spoken word song..it's on youtube

The Mole Song - We would love your feedback on our latest original :)

I like the tune.. my ear wants to hear a harmony in the chorus. Keep working on it.

Cubase 5 MIDI volume goes high on its own

yes...I have an issue. Let's say I se the volume at 98 without any automation applied to the channel. I'll play it back and it will play back at FULL volume, although the channel will still show the output set at 98. If I grab the volume slider and move it at all, the volume will go back to...

Cubase 5 MIDI volume goes high on its own

The volume of my MIDI instruments like the Halion that came with Cubase 5 will go to the highest volume on it's own. This seems especially the case when I am running multipler instances of the instrument. Anyone know how to get it to behave?? Tom

My first post - Stay in the Game

I am a singer songwriter and I record myself in Cubase 5. THis is a song that I will send out to a drummer friend in Nashville for some real tracks. I get the songs about as "done" as I can before I decide if it's worth some $ for drums. I have a GR MP-2NV and some really nice mics and...
