Gappin when editing...make it stop...if possible

I'm not totally sure what you're talking about. Are you saying that when you cut out a couple bars of the beat that it then cuts it out of other places? If this is what you mean, then you have a linking problem. Anything you edit in one linked clip will be repeated down the line however many...

    Drum programming help

Making drum beats in the event window?? Are you on crack? IMO the only way to go is to lay them out in the piano roll view.

What are your favorite reference CD's and WHY??

I agree that music is built from the past. But there is a fine line between being inspired by someone and flat out ripping them off. Maybe you can't see it because you aren't a big Tool fan or don't know how Solsbury Hill goes.. but DT are about as close as you can get without calling it...

    Trim?

Trim is a way to adjust the overal volume of a track after the faders. Here is an example of what I use it for. Say I have a guitar track that I need to clean up. I'll use the envelope tool and create the automation to clean up. This makes the faders move automatically when the song is played...

What are your favorite reference CD's and WHY??

Re: Wha?????? OMG dude are you insane? Listen to The Great Debate... That whole damn song is a Tool rip-off. The rhythms, the drums.. LaBrie is even trying to sound like Maynard.. running his voice through those filters... even the lyrics hint at it.. "Life to save life.."- DT "Life feeds on...

    Active Monitors Poll

Well OK. If you can't afford the 824's then I say out of that group to go with the Event 20/20 ps8. KRK's suck.. Roland sucks. Yamaha's are just ok. I'd say the Events would be the best out of that group. Also, Mackie makes an HR624 model now that is probably a couple hundred bucks cheaper than...

how do i mix down to a cd-burner?

You don't mix down to a CD Burner. You mix down to a 16 bit stereo 44.1khz wav file and then burn that to a CD-R.

    Active Monitors Poll

How could you leave out the Mackie HR824's??????? The Mackies are one of the best pair you can get for your money. They are about 1200 a pair but it's worth the extra money to get them.

What are your favorite reference CD's and WHY??

If you have to bring up Dream Theater.. Awake was the best sounding album they did. The new album is the next best sounding album after that even though it totally sucks.. They are total rip-off artists now.. They steal musical ideas and then wank off all over them.. yuk.. I still think Images...

how do they kill amp noise?

I don't use a noise gate in my guitar rig.. but I'll add one as a plug-in in Sonar. This way you can play with different gate settings when you mix and not have to re-record guitars.

SPDIF record in was there, but now it's gone(Mia card).

Maybe your SBLive mixer software is interfering(?) I record through my spdif input all the time and I know I can't get a signal unless it is set up on the SB mixer panel to record.

    Soundfont EQ?

Yes there is a way! You need Live Synth Pro. I have 5 midi tracks for my drum fonts (snare, kick, toms, hat and cymbals each on separate tracks) that are sent to 5 audio tracks by using Live Synth Pro. You can then apply FX to the audio tracks in real time.

    writing drum loops

I've been programming drums with computers for 11-12 years now. I started out using the sounds off a sound blaster pro card.. (yuk). Then I stepped up to an Alesys sr-16(dm4) programming it with a midi program called Trax. I picked up Sonar and some nice soundfonts last year and I've been using...

The case of the mysterious drop-out.

I understand where you're coming from Chuck, I did adjust my latency when I first set it up. I suppose I could crank it up some more and see where it leads. I just thought it was weird because the CPU usage is usually solid at 60% but it jumps up to 100% out of nowhere.

The case of the mysterious drop-out.

I will throw this story by you and see what y'all can make of it. I'm running SonarXL on a P3-700, 384MB pc133 ram, sblive 5.1 platinum, IBM 60GXP 40gig 7200rpm with Win98SE. My band and I are working on our new album in my home studio. I go SBLIVE mostly because of it's soundfont capabilities...

How many years have you played?

14-15 years now. Since I was about 11. My first guitar was a gutted electric Norma guitar with only 5 strings. I played that and a white Memphis (that had all it's strings). I taught myself for about 2 years learning mostly Van Halen and Metallica stuff. I took private lessons for about 4 years...

Going to the Cakewalk User Group MTG.

Diatonic! I graduated Berklee in Dec 98'. Had a great time while I was out there. I was just thinking about how crazy Boston must have been when the Pats won the Super Bowl... I bet Landsdowne Street was going nuts... I lived down the street from Symphony hall and The Christian Science Center...

guess what this was recorded on....

Clothes do not make the man. Equipment does not make the mix. You could have the best and most expensive gear in the world but if one did not know how to use it properly their mixes will always sound like poo. Someone who knows what they're doing will always have a better mix no matter what...
