    That 80's vocal backup sound

    That 80's vocal backup sound

Are you asking what the gain and eq settings were when Mr. Big material was recorded and mixed?

    The New Tone Thread

Lol, I thought of that when I posted it! Yep, I tried out a Blackstar HT-5 combo way before Jim Marshall died - I think the Jim Marshall thread after his death was where Victory Pete got banned.

Try a torch on the grill and sticking your eyes right up close. That works for me.

You want to leave some headroom in your PSU for efficiency and so it's quieter. If you drop to 300W, you might have to drop to the lower quality range that are louder. I'd consider the CS range, which are gold rated and run at around 10db at 50% load or the RM range, which are the quiet-series...

In modern Intel on-chip graphics, the graphics processing is provided by a different part of the processor than does all your other processing. Video RAM is taken from your main memory, though, although I've found I can set it to the minimum of 64MB for non-graphical applications like DAWs with...

    The New Tone Thread

You currently only need a license if you watch TV as its broadcast. You can watch catchup TV without one. You can just fill in a form on the TV licensing website to tell them you don't need one and they stop sending letters. If you watch live TV on iPlayer, then you need a license.

No, but you'll need a licence to watch catchup on iPlayer, which you don't currently (I don't have a TV licence - I only watch DVDs, downloads, Netflix and iPlayer).

You're going to have to pay for it even at home soon! A VPN service is cheaper than the licence fee, so I wouldn't bother. We do the same here so my other half can watch French TV.

Glyn John's Technique for recording drums

So you wouldn't close mic a cymbal? I guess they move quite a lot.

It was pissing rain just before they came on, so the crowd was quite thin for most of the set. They only played an hour, but there was still a 10 minute drum solo towards the end.

You could watch the whole set on the BBC iPlayer service (therefore with good sound), but I guess you need to have a UK IP address (proxy or VPN service would do). This is a clip of Ace of Spades, but it's put up on YouTube by the BBC, so might not be available there:

Do people ever close mic everything on a kit? Would that lose the sound of the kit as a whole?

    mp3 or wav

When you are viewing your track on Soundcloud, you want to copy the link from your browsers address bar to paste into your post. If you put it between a soundcloud tag, then a playable widget will appear in your post, rather than just a link. For eaxmple, if your post looks like this...

    Selling my Ibanez RG570

This link should show you the UK only, used items that were actually sold: ibanez rg570 | eBay £400 seems high - some sellers are a bit hopeful there, I think.

    interface pres vs. external pres

I only use my interface preamps (on my Roland Quad Capture). I have in the past used the ones in my Mackie 802-VLZ3 mixer when I was experimenting with mixing reverb in to my tracking headphones while recording vocals and needed the extra routing options. I can't tell the difference between...
