    The New Tone Thread

Have you considered that the sound in the room isn't the same as the sound down at the speaker where you put the mic? If you stick your ear up to the speaker, it will sound different, and that's the sound your mic will be picking up.

    Best tambourine ?

You might find close to a condenser mic doesn't work too well. The best recording I've done of tambourine is sitting a few feet away, facing away from the mic. That was in a well-treated room, mind.

How much did you pay for your most expensive axe?

Is it possible to completely remove vocals from an mp3?

Some MP3 player software includes a karaoke option by removing anything that's central in the stereo image. You can hear artefacts, but it's surprisingly effective. Whether it's good enough depends entirely on your purpose.

Audio interface seems to hate motherboard

Is it plugged in a front or rear USB port? Have you tried the opposite ports (i.e. plug it in the back if it's plugged in the front)? I have some issue with my front ports that I don't get with the rear. I assume you've tried all your USB ports, though? Try a USB2 if it's in a USB3, for example.

Audio interface seems to hate motherboard

Is this a new issue or has it been happening since you plugged the interface in? Which OS are you using? Any installations or upgrades (I'm thinking Windows 10!) that happened before the issue appeared?

Convolution reverb is quite CPU-hungry (so I've read) - perhaps some brands are more efficient?
