by the way, rat, how were the tascam pe80's? i wonder if tascam had somebody else make their mics for them?

several local people told me they started with the mics that came with their parents tape recorders. i guess reels were a cool status item in middle class homes of the late sixties. the 545 comes up a lot and radio shack mics. What were the popular options if you wanted to upgrade in those...

that's about what i figured. Do you think that is what the folks who designed these entry level decks from tascam, fostex, etc. assumed? i'm thinking about, say , 1970 to 1985 ish.

wondering what the tascam designers were imagining would typicaly pair up with the model 5, m-35, 388 etc. did they just assume the users would just have a couple a sm58's?

from what i know about human nature, you would get a ton of more participents if you substituted one or two of your mics for the $100. Even if the retail value of the mics were less.

Just to clarify, I've been recording on the 388 and mixing through to my laptop as a mixdown deck. no editing or processing. Wondering if i should get a mixdown deck again. anybody feel like you need the glue if you are already recording on tape and summing through the board to a two track buss...

As opposed to cd burner, interface, etc. If so, do you feel it adds something ( besides a little bit more noise)
