Will Analog Multitracks ever be made again?

There will always be a market for the real thing instead of a very good approximation of the real thing. As long as there is a market, analog decks will continue to be built. When sampled signals are high quality enough that their differences from an analog signals lie outside the range of human...

    Preamp for a beginner.

Another vote for the RNP. I have also had an M-Audio DMP3 for years and it rocks. Perhaps the best bang for the buck out there. Still, the RNP may be a better preamp. Hard to go wrong with either. The DMP3 does not have XLR outs, though - only 1/4" balanced. So if you've got this in an XLR...

    Control room window design

You may be onto something - while thick glass may be better, you have a budget and the major studios built as if they did not. Try it and see what happens. One thing to be sure of, though, is to avoid parallel windows. The plane of the studio A window must not be parallel with the plane of the...

    High-end Martin Acoustics

With this guitar, try a very heavy, relatively soft flat pick, like a Fender Heavy. I have a Taylor 815C and the heavy pick makes a huge difference - no pick sound and it pulls out the killer midrange.

    Design/mechanics question about condenser mics

Absolutely! Whatever you do, don't delete this thing! It's wonderful if you want to get a glimpse into ... I don't know, hell or something. And Harvey still managed not to lose his cool. :D

    Codenser Mic for Grand Piano

If you have only one mic to work with, try for a cardioid large diaphragm condenser right at the tail of the piano, just over the rim, with the top set at low or mid height. You'll be surprised at how much you capture with a single mic there - no hammer noise, no out of control live feedback issues.

Mixing In The Box / Outside The Box

I had this whole thing figured out in my studio. Now my goddamn computer won't boot and I have to start all over again with the wire recorder. And I thought I was finally done with it.

where to buy cheap mic stands or DIY?

Another thing that works pretty well with light tripod mic stands is a five or ten pound barbell weight. They're about six bucks (and up) and just slip over the upright.

    Neck won't suck Finger EEz

I'd steer clear of that stuff and just keep the strings clean; put a little rubbing alcohol on a cloth and run it under the strings as well as over the top. Finger ease is a silicone based spray. It doesn't hurt anything to use it, but there is a really nasty side effect that will pop up if...
