    Yo Dobro -

Any idea how to get a Behringer control unit working with AA 3.0? I have a BCF2000 that will not play well with it. Works fine with Reaper, but Adobe hasn't been exactly responsive in the control unit driver department.

Mackie, JBL, KRK.. which monitors should i get?

Makes sense... and a good employee perk. But watch out for karma. Long ago I was in the advertising business and was breaking new territory for a news and arts weekly patterned after The Boston Phoenix. We were trying to pull market share from other, more established print media and so did all...

Which software is SIMPLE track by track

Go back to reaper and just make sure you set up mono tracks. One for each signal. That's all you need to do - steer clear of the whole stereo track thing. When you have the tracks you want, the final mix is pretty much the same thing as your Roland VS-840, excepting it sounds better, there's...

    Onyx 1640 vs. 1640i

I have an Onyx 1640 with the firewire option. It is a hellaciously good machine, but if I had the opportunity, I would spend a bit more and spring for the 1640i precisely because of the expanded fw return capability. That allows true old school console routing in post production, which allows...

Will a gun blast rupture a mic

Probably not, but you really have to watch out for that bullet. It can make a colossal mess of the diaphragm.

    Nagging minor throat/glands pain

If it is still tender when you have not been singing, there's schmutz hanging around in there. Try gargling with salt water a couple of times a day - w/o swallowing it of course. Helps to pull the leftover bad juju out of the deeper throat tissues and is cheap as dirt. Well, it actually is dirt...

    Confidence when singing

Sounds like a group energy thing to me. No communication with your fellow band members makes you feel left alone out on a reef with a busted foot as the tide is coming in and darkness is settling, as the hot babe you were planning to cruise with disappears into the gathering dark on your...

    Copyright Question

Technical foul, but a copyright owner would be insane to try and harass someone for this. It would go viral on 'em. But is it a violation? As long as there still exist differences of opinion as to whether the stuff on my laptop playlist copied from CDs I bought at fifteen bucks apiece results in...

    Essentials of a Studio

Kinda hard to lurch into the world of acoustic room treatment until you have an idea of what the room sounds like and what you want to change about it. For just getting started, try a computer, a decent sound card or USB interface, a decent (meaning pro audio) set of speakers, a good set of...

    Advice for a couple gigs?

Play your drums. Seriously. Don't get all tangled up in merchandising your "look." Work on setting up your kit to your best advantage, double check everything, make sure the heads are tuned and focus on playing well. You're the backbone of the band. So stay focused. Leave the beers and tokes...

    Help Working With Others

I've been pretty fortunate in that regard, mostly because whenever I'm mixing, all or most of the gear is mine. I've only had two times when I nearly lost my temper. The first was just a drunk who started out with "I used to do this..." and then started getting sulky when I didn't do much more...

    Cheap computer multitracking

I've had an M-Audio Delta66 setup (PCI card with a small breakout box) for some years and it has been rock solid and dead simple to use. I bought mine used on ebay for about $ 65 US (lucky break as there were few bidders) and am happy with it. For more tracks, I have a Mackie mixer with a...

    Room mics?

That's why they live in the bag of tricks instead of being used as primary mics. My point was that they can be extremely cheap and surprisingly useful. Perhaps I should have been clearer that I don't suggest using them as the only mics.
