    what band was this?

I guess you could make the argument that its a continuous cycle of fairly original and interesting acts that inspire less original/talented people to ape them that inspire even less clued-in people that ape them. I mean, if you look at the roots of the eye-makeup/hair in the face look playing...

    what band was this?

It seemed like almost everyone coming out around that time was a Layne Staley clone. A lot of cookie-cutter drop-d riffage too. I'm pretty glad that's over.

    New Monitors!

The VS-160EX that I use has independant knobs for monitor volume and headphones volume, so you just have to twist a knob when it's time to mic something.

I am going to get a half stack, need expert opinions

It's not under a grand, but I think that Electric Amps' White Amp is pretty Godly. http://www.whiteamp.com/ And why go for just a half stack? I say stack their 180 W Master head on top of their 8x10 cabinet on top of their 6X15. You could probably alter weather with that.

First electric for a keyboard player

You're all wrong. If want a strat-shaped guitar, especially if it's your first, you need to get a Dewey Decible Flipout. http://www.deweydecibel.com/guitarpage.html Because if you only have one, this is the one to have.

    industrial drum machine...

I have to second the recommendation of the Korg Electribe ES-1. I've been using one for years, you can sample any sound you want into it, if you have a stack of fx pedals laying around you can run the source signal through those and sample it, the possiblities are endless. Once you've loaded...

    Tube amp problem!

One of my amps had similar symtoms, it turned out that the fx loop jack was dirty from lack of use.

    cheap sampler

You can find Korg Electribe ES-1s for around that or less on Ebay. I have one. I like it. It'll also do way more than what you're describing.

    Has Anyone Ever Made

I think I read a few months ago the guys from Iron Maiden (or it might have been Judas Priest) have certain "live performance only" guitars in their collections where the pickup is wired directly to the output jack, and all the pots and switches are bypassed. The logic is that there's way less...

    Layering/Double tracking guitars

I think it depends on what you are going for. If the 2 amps sound completely different, and you want the listener to be able to pick up on 2 individual amp sounds, I'd do both tracks of amp 1 hard left and both tracks of amp 2 hard right, but if you're just trying to make a unified guitar sound...

    Biggest Most Dangerous Guitar Sound

I don't think that "big" and "dangerous" are neccessarily the same thing when it comes to guitar tone. For example, that Creed guy gets a pretty "big" thick sound, but it's about as "dangerous" (or interesting for that matter) as a sippy cup of warm milk. Greg Ginn from Black Flag, on the...

    Metal Tone

I'd say get some sort of gain boost pedal for more saturation and an EQ pedal with the mids scooped and the highs and some of the lows boosted.

    Anybody help me on this...

Man, I have to whack the jack cup back in place everytime I unplug my tele, getting it out is no problem.

What type of strings do you all like on your gitters?

I dig the ProSteels because they're bright as a mutha, which helps to cut through the mix in recordings. Definetly some rock n roll strings.

What type of strings do you all like on your gitters?

Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky for Fender scale electrics (9-46) Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom for Gibson scale electrics (10-52) Elixir Nanoweb Lights for acoustics (12-53) D'Addario XL ProSteels on my basses (45-105)

    Guitar amp poll

I own: Crate Vintage Club 30 - Got it in 96, all tube, 12" speaker, I think it sounds great. From everything I've read, a lot of people think that this is the Crate to have. Peavey VT Classic - From 1978 I think. Solid pre, tube power. Built in reverb & phase shifter. Sounds good, has a...

    setting up guitars

SC Johnson Klean N Shine. My father has been using this stuff for as long as I can remember on his collection. The smell always reminds me of home. Also, it works on every exposed part of a guitar.

Opinions on Autowah, nothing fancy though...

No matter what autowah you get, how you play is very critical to the filter response you're going to get. If you're heavy handed, the response is going to seem too sensitive all the time. You might want to roll down the volume on your guitar a little bit too. The one I use is a Boss SYB-3...
