    Recording in non-acoustical treated space

Thinking about it I'm surprised someone hasn't developed a plugin that does the opposite of reverb and delay. One that deadens the reflections of the signal and offers you various acoustically treated room models to work with. Now if I could write that program I would probably make more money...

    Recording in non-acoustical treated space

Some thoughts and things I have noticed while recording vocals in my non-acoustical treated space. My room is finished livable space with rugs covering most of the floor, ceiling tile, drywall walls. I have found some interesting things mostly by accident, through headaches and problem...

Buying hubby a laptop for Christmas - NEED HELP PLEASE

The great news, he has a wonderful wife that supports his endeavors and wants to buy him a great gift that suits him perfectly. The bad news, unless he has done his own research and told you exactly what he wants you could spend your money and miss the mark. That being said I will put in my 2...

With the death of Sonar and Cakewalk, what are people moving to?

Reaper for me, moved over last year from Sony/Magix Vegas edit Pro. They have tons of tutorials on their site. Can't beat the price. Was easy for me as it is much like the Vegas DAW as far as functions and commands go. If Reaper goes under I will jump to Pro Tools and be done with it.

    Audio Interface

Took the plunge and bought the Tascam 16x08 USB. Going to try leaving my 2488 behind and record directly into the computer. Another learning curve. Hope it is not too steep. Got it from Musicians Friend, 15% discount, free shipping and no tax. Best deal I could find right now on new.

The end of Cakewalk Sonor...and Cakewalk for that matter.

I guess it happens, I just went through this with Sony Vegas and Magix last year. I was a faithful Vegas user for many years and when Magix bought them they really did not seen interested in keeping Vegas going as a DAW. They are full speed ahead as a video editor but couldn't care less about...

    Audio Interface

Anyone here know what is a good sale price on a Tascam 16x08. I know 299.00 seems to be the everyday price I want new not used or refurbished.

    Audio Interface

I may be helping answer my own question but one thing that used to be true about outboard gear was that units with internal AC power supplies were of higher quality. One way they get manufacturing costs down on gear is to go with a cheaper more compact external AC/DC conversion. Internal...

    2488 File transfer via USB

Took me long enough to try this out. I figured I better since it sounds like the DP24SD transfers in a similar manner except through SD card. Used the manual and it was pretty easy. Not sure how much faster than a cd burn because I only transferred 4 vocal tracks instead of 12 or 16. The lions...

    Covering a mic

Yes I remember as kids [ I'm 61 now ] someone I knew would take a mic and rub it in a not so nice place and then watch the next user put it up to their mouth. Jokers!!!

    Covering a mic

Thanks for all the responses. Probably no one right way. I have always covered my large condenser mics with a plastic bag from the grocery store and just loosely tucked up the bag at the bottom. Loose enough so it can breath a little from the bottom but covered from the top to keep dust out. My...

    Covering a mic

Just curious does anyone cover their microphone {s} when not in use or between sessions. If you go for days or weeks without using it. either with a loose fitting plastic bag or piece of cloth. Mainly to keep dust out etc.

Where to Place Dorrough in Master FX CHain

Thanks for your candid response. It is not a question of just turning the speakers up. The problem is that without all the overs; the level is way lower than a commercial recording and I mean way lower. This is when it is the last FX in the master chain. Only other thing I can think of is they...

Where to Place Dorrough in Master FX CHain

I'm wondering where to place the Dorrough volume meter in a stereo master FX chain. It seems to work like it should if I put it first but if I put it last or after a volume Maximizer all I get are tons of over lights. If I turn it down to get rid of the over lights it is way too soft. I guess...

    2488 File transfer via USB

I think I will give it a try, I just use the 2488 for tracking, once the tracked .wav files get transferred to my computer/DAW everything gets backed up from there. If I can just get the transfer vis USB down I should be good. I will have to look at the manual as I have never move the 2488 files...

    2488 File transfer via USB

Wow, Sounds like a bit more than I want to do and may not be any quicker than burning an export cd with .wav files. I'm trying to decide right now whether or not to buy a DP24SD or go with the 16x08 interface and do everything on the computer. I am so spoiled with the foot switch punch in and...
