    Mixing 101 (almost dumb questions)

Yeah EQ'ing the whole song is generally done when mastering song, along with adding compression to the whole song. Record each track the best you can, work through each track individually to find any discrepenices but mix with all tracks in mind. What I mean here is that you may for example...

    mixer?

Cross posting in seperate forums, better be carefull with that; some people don't like that. I'd personally go with the Soundcraft m series; 4, 8 or 12 channels; good EQ and there ghost preamps.

    spectral analyzer

Yeah; I've been reading quite a bit to find out how to get them onto the PC. I think the two main ways are either to burn the track data to CD from the D16 and then open them on the PC or to connect the D16 to the PC with the use of a digital convertor and a USB.

    Lexicon mpx500 -v- TC G major

Come on people I thought you were supposed to be intelligent. It's quite simple really, are effects processors as applicable to one instrument as another (even if it says guitar processor). BTW; the G major is pure effects (and a compressor/noise gate btw), no amp simulation and inbuilt...

    spectral analyzer

Zip; I record on a KORG D16 (stand alone multi-track), I don't use the computer at all for recording. If I want to use a spectral anlyzer I know that I'm going to have to somehow hook up to the computer, I guess by sending track data out of my D16 via the aux out (1/4" jack) or digital out into...

    Outboard EQ

Yeah; I'm well aware of the speck range but there a bit out of my range at the moment.

Alright the brainspawn it is. I know virtually nothing about computers, the system requirements for the software are: ---------------------------------------- SpectR-Pro System Requirements DirectX Version: Windows 98SE, ME, NT 4.0, 2000 or XP DirectX host application DirectX 6.0 (8.1...

    Outboard EQ

Artwork; how did you get it for £80? It's currently £160 at digitalvillage, as opposed to the £250 at sounds live; might be worth getting one.

    Outboard EQ

Hi, There seems to be few parametric outboard EQ's available on the market (certainly ones worth putting your money into), I know about the speck range (out of my range currently), the only other one I can find is this one that I know nothing about and have seen no reviews of; for the price I'm...

    Lexicon mpx500 -v- TC G major

Howdy there; OK; I've been thinking about investing in a Lexicon 500 for recording/mixing (full range of instruments), thing is I already have a TC Electronic G major (I don't really want to get into the quality of Lexicon-TC, that's all been done before) that I am quite happy with the quality...

    Rename my studio?

Gutted, A few problems come to mind. If you did proceed with the name you would undoubtadly have to contact them to talk it over with them (they will most likley prove to be a pain and uneasy about the association (even though only in name)). Aproaching them with the logo will IMHO be a...

    Mic pres: Spend $200 or $2,000 ? ? ?

mcr; just adding the MindPrint Envoice to the initial list of chessrock's $600 range; thats all.

Chessrock; firstly concerning the PAS it states: Does this explain the: Next, there is the choise between SA pro, SA basic and SA live, the basic is just that but maybe enough; I don't really get the difference in the other two, can anyone explain: http://www.audio-software.com/...

    Yamaha S80

OK; this seems to be well reviewed on this board. Could you tell me what the organ sounds are like; are they (organ and piano mainly) professional enough for preoffesional recordings/is there anything better in the price range. I'm very tempted, Thanks, Krystof.

    Mic pres: Spend $200 or $2,000 ? ? ?

I have to say, it's hard to justify spending cash on things like convertor and preamps; the things that go in between a microphone and a recording device, especially being a guitarist. If it wasn't for my multi-talent's (lol (recording gear, bass guitars, drums, outboard gear etc) I'd have the...

    Mic pres: Spend $200 or $2,000 ? ? ?

It's good all this talkin' out loud isn't it. Oh btw I'd add the Envoice in with the mid price ones just to make things a little more complicated. One other thing worth debating is the digital domain; one feature for example the DBX 386 in this range has which is a nice option, on others like...

    Mic pres: Spend $200 or $2,000 ? ? ?

all I'd like to add is that this place is great for getting things off are chests; I mean without this board we'd all be walkin' around are rooms in circles fuming about this kind of shit to areselves (we'll at least we stop to type don't we). Bottom line; most here are home recordists and play...

    spectral analyzer

I have been reading a fair bit about the SA's and it seems very clear that software on the computer is the only means for quality/cost. So come on then; lets have some software links for SA's (prefereably SA's without much else), one that has multiple graphs, real time, wide a range as possible...

    spectral analyzer

chessrock; nice analogies. I do indeed understand the concept of the spectral analyzer (from now on lets call it the SA, it's one of those horrible ones to spell); the thing I'm trying to get at more than anything are the possibilities open; what hardware and what software options are...

Check out and contribute to the ongoing spectral analyzer thread which I believe is directly relevant.
