what does everyone think of this mic? is it good quality? what's it good for? i found one the other day at a music store for $140 and it looks like it'd be a good mic. how does it compare to other large diaphragm condenser mics?

i rented an apex 125 the other day to do some recordings and i think it worked great. they are pretty cheap too

is there a certain directory that you need to instal directX plugins in in order to get them to work. i know aobut the refreshing thing but i cant seem to get them to ever work

is it possible for a mic to die? i was recording and then right in the middle of my recording my shure sm57 completly cut out. i checked the cables and those are working but for some reason the mic isnt. all im getting now is a loud buzzing sound from it

i seem to find that there arent enough headphones with wires that are long enough. how do people get around this problem? im using my mixer upstaris in my house and recording the band in my basement. is the only way i can give the band playback by either moving my computer or getting wireless...

i was budget recording so we didnt wanna have to buy a new cable. i know it sounds cheap but we wanted to use whatever resorces we could get. it was actually cheaper to rent the bass drum mic and a longer cable

yeah i ended up just renting an apex 125 kick mic and wired it directly to my mixer. the reason i needed the pa before was cuz the mic cable was too short and if i connected it to the pa it would reach my mixer.

i also forgot to mention that i was running the mic through a PA preamp. im assuming this is the problem

my mixer just uses dc adapter

so if i plug the mics that require phantom power into my mixer which is plugged into the wall, my mics will work?

what exactly is phantom power. i understand that it requres another source for power, but what does this source have to be?

this is gonna sound super dumb but i wanna get it clear..ok i understand that compression gets rid of all the peaks, makes it clearer,and that kinda stuff but what else does it do? also what do you use to "compress?" is it like a switch? does it take a bunch of EQing or does that take place...

stupid question ...but what is a preamp? i keep reading all these threads that mention them but i have no clue what they are. are they always necessary? i use my fostex 280 by directly plugging in the mic to the mixer and it works perfect. is this a bad way of setting up?

yeah i figured my sound card wouldnt be able to do it. it bums me out though cuz i spent a lot on this sound card and only to find it doesnt do what i thought it would do. anyone have any suggestins for a good soundcard that would be able to do this? and roughly how much they cost
