Question on the last 2 Bowie/Visconti productions, The Next Day and ★

Well, if the breathing on the album was all Bowie's, and to me it was the drummer's breathing in that song, then it follows ipso fatso (as Archie Bunker used to say) that it was Bowie. I'll have to find my glasses and look at the liner.

Question on the last 2 Bowie/Visconti productions, The Next Day and ★

There are a couple of songs on ★ where you can hear the breathing, didn't know it was Bowie playing drums on the second song "T'is a Pity She Was a Whore" ... Thanks!

Question on the last 2 Bowie/Visconti productions, The Next Day and ★

Thanks Steenamaroo, Maybe what I'm talking about is done on most modern recordings these days - it's just that I don't listen much at all, only to some of the songs here and these 2 cds at home. If I listen, I imitate and I'm trying not to. Anyway, if I could get my voice to sit like David's...

Question on the last 2 Bowie/Visconti productions, The Next Day and ★

I figure that this is the best forum for this question, because I think it was the mixes and not the masters that I'm asking about. In Bowie's last 2 studio albums, The Next Day and ★, there was a particular "sound" or "vibe" that encompassed both albums and I'm not sure how they did it. I...

    Having problems with playback

4 gigs of RAM should be sufficient unless you're loading tons of samples and/or have a sh$tload of VSTs/VSTIs loaded in your project. Is this happening with only a single track? Has it always happened or has this humming just started? And does this happen with every project? I use X3 and this...

"Mastering is not Mixing...", but is it "fixing"?

    Treatment

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I record vocals and both electric and acoustic guitars in my untreated (and it shows!) basement. Are there any issues with treating such a room, like dampening the recordings I get in a warm sounding room? Thanks in advance, Timbo

What are your top 10 most influential albums?

By influential, most influential on me: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy - Bowie Killer - Alice Cooper Animals - Floyd Overnight Sensation - Frank Aqualung - Tull The Wall - Floyd Sgt. Pepper's - Beatles Quadrophenia - Who I think that sums me up. The 70's - what a decade.

Need an oppinion on the mix and master...

The best place here to have your work critiqued is the MP3 Clinic, so I'd resubmit the thread there. And don't forget to read the rules .... Timbo

    Pillars

The guitars do sound terrific: and that's an amazing bass sound, best I've heard in awhile - hard to believe it's a sim. My only bone of contention is the tempo, I could hear this about 4 bpm faster, but that's nitpicky! Timbo

    New tune, yeah!

Sweet: a little bit of Motown at the start - I was born on that lovely music. The only clicky part I'm hearing is that synth keyboard ... I like your imagination! And the first time through, I heard lyrics in certain parts, but now they're gone out of my head - was enjoying your work too much...

    The Gathering Crowd

Ha, I never think like that - only because I can't play and sing at the same time, therefore there have to be two people in my imagination!

Wow, you guys are good! Everybody heard it but me: only now did I notice that there was no verb at all on the acoustic. Thanks!

    The Gathering Crowd

Thanks heatmiser, I'm beginning to wonder if I overcooked it with the lyrics and rhyme. Thanks for pointing out the upper mids, I will definitely listen to the vocals more closely. Timbo

    The Gathering Crowd

Thanks for taking the time, fat_fleet. It is on purpose that I made some of the lines awkward, and it's for the same reason that I stopped rhyming. I introduced the Viet Nam vet to the listener through the word "beaucoo", and was trying to show that the singer was suffering from untreated PTSD...

    The Gathering Crowd

So I wrote this song about a war vet (I'm a Canadian, this guy is American, but it fit) and I'd like you guys to give it a listen and critique, please and thanks. You may have noticed that I'm not the greatest vocalist, but I do try. https://soundcloud.com/yellowdwarfband/the-gathering-crowd-1...
