Is there any use for testing mixes on speakers anymore?

    Precisely!

Is there any use for testing mixes on speakers anymore?

Thanks everybody for chiming in! I'd really like to hear from Farview and MassiveMaster as well to see how they approach this too. I've known these 2 for more than a decade and would like to know their thoughts - although I think I know the answer and it's what most of you have already said: if...

Is there any use for testing mixes on speakers anymore?

I'm a commuter and a hobbyist. Dumb question, (/edit and maybe it's a bit tongue in cheek), but it seems to me that hardly anyone listens to music anymore on anything besides some form of cover-your-ear headphones or stick-in-your ear earbuds or something in between. In all my education on...

Seagulls Fly Behind Her (#MeToo song)

I just got home and checked: the first part of the song up to 1:40 or so has no compression on the vocals, just eq, with sends to a vocal slap and another to verb. So that's strange. Then at 1:40 I switched vocal tracks and there is a compressor on it and it kicks in for probably 3/4 of the...

Seagulls Fly Behind Her (#MeToo song)

That's helpful Steve, thanks. I never thought to put the vocals for the various "sections" of the song on separate tracks and treat them differently. I think it may fix what you talked about. Timbo

I'm finding it, can anyone else?

Swamp Blues - how is the mix?

I just meant that you can edit the vocals so that where they get quiet at the end of a held note you can use an envelope to raise the volume. Tim

Swamp Blues - how is the mix?

Like the song, dude. I really love swamp songs! = creedence ...! Vox can come forward with envelopes when they get quiet at the end of a held note Love the story ... Great lead guitar sound throughout! Terrific snare sound. Great playing = nothing much to pick apart except that the mix is a...

(SummerVibes) I Would Really Appreciate Feedback ❤️

Hey Vikash, I like this! Great beat, good job. I have two problems with it: 1) when I turn it up, the eq on the main synth lets a bit of harsh synth through 2) you're missing a great bass line, super low end stuff that would really bring the song out! Liked it, Timbo

Seagulls Fly Behind Her (#MeToo song)

Hi all, I put this song together awhile ago and just got back to the mix. Can you please lend your ears to it? There is a wide (IMO) bit of dynamics to this one, so I'd like to hear what you think. This wav is a mix with a lightly used compressor on top and then normalized so one side goes to...

I think this is the correct sub-forum for a question on mixing "large" songs

Oddly enough, I switched to the new Bandlab version of Sonar Platinum (I was on X3) and the problems have disappeared.

Thanks, most of my plugs that didn't come as part of Sonar are 32 bit and are either free or bought and paid for. Tim

I think this is the correct sub-forum for a question on mixing "large" songs

Thanks for this - it's basically what I've been forced to do in this situation on almost every track. Tim

For sure, it's pretty good until I go above 60% cpu.

I think this is the correct sub-forum for a question on mixing "large" songs

Interesting. I use a Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 interface. Imagine 30 tracks with at least one VST, plus 2 or 3 VSTis and I could have 50-75 VSTs loaded. That's a lot of processing.

I think this is the correct sub-forum for a question on mixing "large" songs

I think this is the correct sub-forum for a question on mixing "large" songs Hi all, I have a couple of projects on the go in Sonar X3, pretty good DAW with an i5 and 16 gigs under Windows 10. I'm wondering how to approach an issue that I run into from time to time. This never happens with a 3...

Valentines Day - new mix 2-28-18

Good lord Mike, how your work reminds me of the old Floyd and London music in general circa 1967 - Bowie and everyone else. I have so much trouble not thinking that you're some famous guy releasing lovely stuff that we haven't heard before that I can't even begin critique your music. Love this...
