    "Soldier" Crunch time!!

Johnny, A couple of IMOs (if you're good, then so am I!) The rhythm guitar could use with a touch more 4-5K Great job on the singer's voice, and also the backing track is not overdone at all I'm not happy with the actual sound of the snare in the main part of the song but the volume is perfect...

get off your phone and drive!!

Livin up to your screen name, jimi - Jesus H this is sweet. You've got some nice Hendrix sounds going there, it's like he would sound if he was in a studio today. I really dig your playing! IMO section One of my only "botherments" is the snare, I'd like a crisper sound to it. I'd like to hear...

    A song tentatively called stasis

Remix Thanks to all for helping. As you know, change one thing in a mix and you have to change 5 others, so it took more time than I had. I've tried to address the low end with the bass, kick and snare (hopefully brought some thwack into the snare). Also addressed Robus and TripleM's thoughts...

    A song tentatively called stasis

Thanks for that, TripleM. I've been working on a mix to get rid of your vocal complaint and the other commenters points about the low end. I'll share it when it's ready. I kind of like the eternity part, but I get your point: I could lose a lot of listeners before the song picks up! But seeing...

    A song tentatively called stasis

Thanks Robus, that's helpful advice - let me do more listening along with the 2 comments. The synth is Hybrid from Air - it came with my Advance 49. The patch is "Animal Companion". As soon as I tried it I knew it was what I wanted. Timbo

Thanks for that tip, I'm in a bad room and tend to cut the area you mentioned. Good catch and thanks! Timbo

    A song tentatively called stasis

Hi all, I don't often post but try to come by when I can and help folks out. This song has been incubating awhile and I think it's ready for your criticisms. It becomes a rock song, is all I'll say. Sorry for some of the musicianship, I know that most of you guys are really good, but it's the...

This is my ~30th Version. Have at it!

I like the vocals in this, nice and thick verb on them. This reminds me a bit of 60's Bowie stuff - simple drums, some simple guitar, simple sounds, well put together instrumentally. Love the outro as well. Songwise, IMO, you're missing dynamics - to me the whole thing sounds the same volume...

    CD Baby - thoughts?

I did this a couple of years back to learn the process - sold 9 albums world-wide. I still get amounts I can transfer to paypal, so I'm getting a kick out of the deal. One thing I remember about CDb was that I had trouble with the 44.1 stereo 16 bit wav files that I bounced in Sonar = the CDb...

    Writing Lyrics

I've done a few songs where the lyrics came first, I really like when that happens! I forgot to add that I've done a couple of songs after reading friends' poetry. Sometimes one just bites you in the ass and you can hear the song as you read the poem. That's a powerful creationary experience, IMO.

    The Surface - alternative

I have to agree with sparky, the snare in particular is lacking "something". I like what you do with your vocals, though.

I know this isn't strictly a recording question, but ... the site is quiet and has many experienced users! I've always used an mp3 player with recording capacity for my "mobile" use, aka going to and from work (where ideas come sometimes), walks (where ideas tend to come), etc. My latest is...

    Are You Listening?

Love the song - IMO the snare can come forward a touch in the verses, along with the lead vocals. I'd even bring the backing vox forward a touch more. Great guitar sound, reminds me of the Byrds. Great bass sound. Timbo

Is there any use for testing mixes on speakers anymore?

But you can hear it everywhere on a floor. It's scary. And base-y. Oh well, it seems I have my answer - back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Is there any use for testing mixes on speakers anymore?

I hate to semi-resurrect this thread but I forgot to mention the difficulty that I have making a song that sounds good on one of these Bose monstrosities ... they are worse than a "ghetto blaster" with the "ultra bass" turned up ... Everything sounds good: earbuds, crappy stereo headphones...
