    Tascam M-308B Story...

There is no cure for this affliction. I have been buying and selling for who knows how long, as soon as I purge all my electronics, I start again. I am now out of control. :D of course, I would love to have a BR20!? Yeah, maybe just one more piece!!

    What should I do with 1/2" 3M 996?

You may have to rebias if you find it's too bright or the levels are off. I guess you can try it and see how you like it, I beleive the formulation to be equal to Quantegy GP9. That said, it may be a hassle just to bias for a couple of reels and it may be better to keep the machine aligned to a...

    What should I do with 1/2" 3M 996?

The 996 is highly regarded tape and is perhaps some of the best made. I used it all the time with my Tascam 48. The sound was incredible and is the best I ever heard. Try it and see, otherwise sell it. It does not suffer from sticky shed. Just my 2c :)

    Any sound differences between machines

I've had both and liked the sound of the A-3340S better and the looks of the A-3440 better. The 3440 was also easier to work on, transport is bascially the same as the 3340S, but the 3440 had better logic controls. May as well keep your machine, unless you get your hands on a Tascam 44OB. :)

Tascam 42 Reel to Reel Parts Needed

Hi all, I recently aquired a Tascam 42 tape machine and I am missing a few parts as the unit was racked. The parts in question are the 4 plastic feet from the bottom of the deck and the bottom metal plate that covers the electrical adjustments. They are NLA from Tascam. The feet are pretty...

    Help-- trouble with Tascam 38

Good point about the solenoid cushion. I had to remove the one on the brake solenoid in my 42 as it did not seem to be retracting enough to release the brakes fully causing a drag. I removed this felt and it's now fine, just a little noisier.

    Help-- trouble with Tascam 38

Hmmm, almost looks like the brakes are not releasing. Maybe it's the brake solenoid? Does the pinch roller engage completly or does it get stuck? EDIT: Maybe there are some dirty contacts somewhere, or the signal is not being sent to disengage the brakes on play, I don't think it's anything...
